Cmud Like Zmud only different. Actually built for windows XP. Anyone got it? run it? like it? hate it?

I recently downloaded it for free because of getting Zmud recently and getting a discount. Seems very identical but it can do more I have havnt tried to tap into those things yet. The major draw back as I see it is you dont get free updates for ever and ever like Zmud but then again Zugg software claims was running out of funding so Zmuds free updates where likely coming to a close anyway. The other major issue is its still in its Beta release. Well thoughts ?

Unless you're having issues with slow text scrolling because of scripts (aliases, triggers, etc.) or corruption issues with the .mud files, I don't see any reason to pay another $30 to switch from zMUD to cMUD.

On his website, Zugg claims that cMUD will benchmark faster than zMUD, but hasn't released any data yet. Again, unless it's a significant increase, save your money. The average user won't notice a difference.

Not until you get Vista. Zmud will be around for a long time.

This is true. I got a beta version in June because the mud I built for at the time had some odd idea that builders using the same tools would build more in sync aesthetically (boggle). All builders got a free copy, and it was a complete waste of time and space for a tech illiterate like myself, in my opinion. I'm now back to standard zmud - I prefer it.

The head coder liked it though. He complained about bugs and holes or something, but had it customized to his taste in a couple of days.

Regardless, I wouldn't recommend anyone downloading it until the public release in December. Too many holes and sctuff.

Downloaded and played with it last night.

Very buggy, very unstable. Back to Zmud this morning.

Will probably buy it anyway, if only to support Zugg and because I get it at half-price if I buy it within the month because I bough Zmud at some point in the last billion years or so.

I would imagine the bugs and other assorted issues I hit last night can be worked around until they're patched. We shall see.

So Cmud has been designed to make the leap from Win 95/98 to XP a bit more official - just as Vista hits the streets. I suppose it will take another 5 years for a Vista version?

No. Cmud is the Vista version, albeit it's also XP compatible. Which is good. I don't plan on going near Vista for a while.

Of course, it might take another five years for Zugg to knock all the bugs out of it

Actually, cMUD is the jump from 95/98 framework to XP framework, which Vista is fully compatible with.

Zugg, all credit due, was too in love with his favourite programming language to move forward and get with the latest platform tools. Delphi and maybe Pascal too, I think it was? Third-party libraries out of date, but too embedded fixes and hacks for him to update to the latest releases, etc.

zMUD has many, many features that less than 5% of the userbase take advantage of - but you can't hassle a guy for enjoying his hobby and letting his creative ideas run unrestrained. Yes, I bought zMUD and urged others who enjoyed using it for years to do the same - especially since the proviso was that you'd get updates for free, forever.

CMUD is an upgrade to zMUD in that it's another MUD client written by the same guy. But because it's a rewrite from the ground up and for an (apparently new) platform, he's made the decision to release it as a new product and therefore not a free download for registered zMUD owners.

I'm happy with what works and I have no guiilt in continuing to use the zMUD client I've paid for. I wish zugg all the best in selling his new client to the next generation of Mudders. :)

On that note to those who buy Z mud before the Cmud release date will get free Cmud for two years I believe check out the site for more details.
So there has never been a better time to buy Z mud ironically.
