call me a newb. Cold iron effects races intolerant of iron moreso than regular iron or something? Just a stronger iron?

It doesn't affect them more than normal iron.

Cold iron bonus vs simple iron is durability. It will last a lot longer than a simple iron weapon that will be destroyed in 5 rounds of combat.
