Mount would work a whole lot better if all mounts could be named (currently the midnight-blue atyrros and Black horses from Mene can't take names) or that mount could default to your own mount.

I would like to know what are some of the common rules about naming. like what makes a name not be able to be used?

Probably the script which fires when buying an atyrros (not sure about the black horse) loses the name argument? I've noticed the same thing, and there's definitely a bit of script lag, presumably for the class check.

Peace,
Bux

I believe it was Tat who once said that the black horses from Mene would lose their flight if the bug was fixed...
Maybe they both need to be sorted out properly?

Then again, making mount without arguments default to your own pet would help a heck of a lot, for example in a room full of hammer with glowy donkeys.

I think it would be a nice enhancement if you were able to rename any pet that currently considered you as leader, still having to stick within the existing naming rules, of course. This would have benefit beyond making life a bit simpler for just a bunch of paladins and hellions.

As to your horsie naming problem, the midnight-blue atyrros post date me, but being paladin only pets I suspect it's the same issue as affects the hellion only black gee-gees from Menegroth, and as Bux says, is to do with the limitations of script that controls access to the petshop that actually sells the animals.

I don't remember the detail, but do remember going over the Menegroth script (believe it was one of Khore's) and reaching the conclusion that it couldn't be done any better with the tools of the time. The only alternative was therefore to remove the class restriction and wimp the pets concerned. Seemed better to leave as is.

It could very well be that the versitility of the scripting language has long moved on and the above conclusions are now obselete.

On the other hand, as it is at the moment puts hellions and paladins at no more of a disadvantage than any of the other characters with access to superior pets of one sort or another. Tin can crusaders can't name their glowing donkeys, necrophiliacs can't name their hoards of wights and wraiths, and scouts are stuck with having to squabble over whos naj is whos when they meet.

I am in favor of the pet (re)naming idea. In fact, I think it would be super awesome to be able to name pets with a separate command alltogether.

So, the process would look something like:

Code:
buy uberpet

[HP:100%] [ME:100%] [PE:100%]

name uberpet &1

uberpet is now called &1

[HP:100%] [ME:100%] [PE:100%]

name (notice, no arguement)

uberpet has been named &1

[HP:100%] [ME:100%] [PE:100%]

It would be very nice if it worked with undead, elementals, and any other generated pet.

Or, just remove the naming system completely since most people who seem to use it abuse it. And how does a full-grown animal you just bought respond to a name it just got?

Heh. The game should randomly name all pets, and the owner should be able to see them by name.

Enjoy your pet.

<You see> Spitter is here.
