Enough twinking with the pet names already. Pet names shouldn't work for anyone but the owner.

Pet owner types: o goldie nod
a goldfish nods.
Owner's friend types: l goldie
You don't see that here.

Names help with summon. I say they stay.

It's a toss-up between being able to summon and stopping the twinkage.

I remember the last time I encountered someone with a pet named after them, I was halfway through making a pray about it when I got attacked by them. Turns out sturdy was his real adjective, with a sturdy pack mule pet, which I still think was on purpose.

Regardless, I say pet names stay, just so that I can get the chance to report people for abusing it and then laugh maniacally as they get punished.

Names should stay as they are since it can also be a disadvantage for someone who has let his pet's name slip out. It's just that imms should more often check and punish those who abuse pet names. (sorry imms, but you should).

I agree with Juggs. In fact I'll start praying everytime I see it happen, which is all to often.

I had to face this recently. At first I was shunned because I thought that people do not do that anymore. My choices were, stop the RP and tell him that I do not like speaking to a horse, pray about it or just tell him to leave his horse someplace and THEN come to speak to me. Unacceptable.

ps:Of course I did the third.

Another problem with this solution is grouping. I know you can hit 2.horse or whatever, but names become far easier when you have a mess of the same type of pet and are forming two groups.

My solutions:

1)Imms patrolling, first offense (per player) slay/rename pet and a warning. Every time after that they get the big bad curse. The only reason for the warning is for those who are new to the game and think they're original in their twinkage. I had the same "new" idea at one point.

2)Make a filter that checks your name and adjective and disallows any pet name that starts with either letter. I'm not sure how hard it would be, and it is heavy handed, but it's obviously the most effective solution.

3) I'm not sure how much I like this one, but the pet sellers could possibly hand our a random name and tell it to the buyer upon sale. The chances of either adjectives or names somehow being alike would be so low that the pbase would likely applaud anyone who was lucky enough to have it happen. Again, I'm not sure how easy this would be to implement, but it would work.

I guess I'm just dumb, I don't know which rule is being broken with naming pets similar to your adjective or name. I'm not saying it isn't lame, but I've never seen the "Its illegal to name pets in annoying ways" rule. If I had, I would have patrolled for it. I'm more than willing to take the appropriate measures when there are violations, but until I have some kind of Dulrik-approved guideline, I'm not going to just go around slaying people.

That's why I suggested the patrolling for it as number one. I don't think there was ever a set rule on it.
