Post subject:  Polearms
Polearms should be made better. Years ago, scouts lost Polearm from their skillset. I was under the impression this was because Polearms were suppose to be better than spears for range, and scouts weren't enough of warriors to get to use polearms. Polearms shoudl once again become superior to spears, simpy because they are limited to the more combat oriented classes

And considering that most if not all spears would compare FASTER to a polearm, polearms are thus useless atm, unless you're looking for a reach blitz/cleave weapon.

Agreed.

It'd be nice to see people using bills and pikes and such. But careful about the tweaking, just the speed needs to be upped a bit, not damage or accuracy imho.

If you wanted to be faster with polearms then you should have rolled a barbarian or mercenary. Or you should take advantage of the haste spell.

The tools are already there. Use them.

Or would you rather see a necromancer running around with a pack of wraiths that get 5 attacks a round each?

That's what they're talking about, Cyra. Barbs and mercs being able to use them more effective.

Right now only mercs, barbs, paladins, and hellions get them. Paladins and hellions typically don't use polearms. But I do find it silly that mercs and barbs prefer the battle spear to the pike and/or the lance.

And...the best weapons for wraiths are two handed spears/swords/axes currently in any matter.

Those stone pikes are no longer in game afaik.

A lance shouldn't be better than it is. A lance is good for the one thing in the game that makes sense, a certain cabal skill.

How often in a movie or book have you seen/read about someone actually fighting with a lance?

The lance is one of the most used weapons in calvary history.

If you'd like to educate yourself on the history of weaponuse. Not that it has -anything- to do with the SK world, but merely stating that a lance should outperform a spear.

Um, I thought a lance was the like pointy at one end and then slightly cone shaped looking weapon they used to joust?

No, I didn't read that whole thing. 8)

Edit : Guess that's just one type of lance. :oops:

I would find it sillier that a massive pike is easy as pie to swing around. What you're talking about is boosting the speed of massive, unwieldy weapons that should be slow but have massive damage output. There's actually no reason that they should become faster.

There are other subtypes that need more look at, like staff/mace/flail.

And a mercenary need only type in, 'specialize pike' to become faster with the weapon. A barbarian only needs to type in berserk. Tada, speed bonus.
