This idea is one I disagree with. Dwarves, gnomes, and deep-elves all share deep tongue because they share a common history of trading and warring and the like. And with the exception of gnomes, and that is a very weak exception as the only real difference in gnome types is their color I believe, there is only one kind of dwarf and deep-elf. Elves on the other hand are very varied. There is no reason why a common elf from zhenshi would innately speak sylvan tongue. A common elf is as close to a half-elf as you can get without being one. There are also pyran elves and sylvan elves. The only elves that should get innate sylvan tongue should be the sylvan elves, and since people rping a sylvan elf should be from the selkwood forest, aka Ayamao, they would have sylvan tongue already. For what ever reason there is much more variety in elves then in any other of the demi human races. So, while the idea sort of makes sense that elves would get sylvan automatically if you read a bit about the elves, help elf culture, you will find that it's not all that practical. There's no real reason why a common elf adventurer would speak sylvan automatically if they aren't from ayamao. Pyran elves might, and sylvan elves certainly would but on a whole I don't think it's suitable for elves to get this freebee. |
