Well, instead of just complaining about the griffon help files, I thought I'd volunteer some changes. Certainly they need an update; they don't even demand griffons be a lion/eagle hybrid. Suggestions welcome.

Griffons
"Griffons are a noble race whose roots are deeply imbedded in the arcane. The first griffons are commonly thought to be the mistaken product of a powerful wizard's magic. Due to their creator's good intentions, griffons are inherently altruistic beings. They are a chimera-like combination of an eagle in their front-quarters and a lion in the rear, though they are easily larger than both. A typical griffon is as tall at the shoulder as the average horse.
The leonine part of their nature is shown in the general body shape and thick fur, which is commonly a sandy brown, though variations exist. Generally this fur extends up past their shoulderblades, where the wings protrude, before giving way to a more feathered covering at the neck and head. The wings of a griffon are a majestic sight to behold, the length from tip to tip easily longer than their large forms. The head itself is like an eagle's, save that most griffons have long, horse-like ears rather than ear-tufts. That these creatures possess beaks and no lips makes it rather difficult to read their odd expressions. Obviously this unique build makes it impossible to wear most armors, and their talons make gripping any weapon not specifically designed for them exceedingly awkward."

Griffons have almost no weaknesses as they possess great strength, a sturdy build and a keen mind. They learn to fight with their powerful claws from birth, and infravision allows them to spot prey even at night. Their fur hide is unnaturally resistant to wounds, and they shake off both cold and acid with ease. The nature of their creation provides them with almost innate immunity to poison and disease, strong resistance to charm effects, and an unflagging endurance, which they can use to carry a rider while in flight.

revised help griffon-culture wrote:
Griffons, being avian creatures, tend to prefer life in the wilds to life in the cities, as they find cities rather confining. Not to mention that in many cities, the griffon race in general is looked upon as an aberration of nature, and griffons have even been killed because of this.
This is why, after their impromptu exile from the Empire centuries ago, that many griffons turned their formidable minds and talents to two things: living in the wild, and self defense. The great majority live in family groups and small clans, with widely varying customs. Some of these groups choose to live among other races, but place their nests in distant and secure places. Griffons tend to be reticent about the exact location of their homes.
By nature, griffons are relatively unselfish, having strong desires to help others. However, exactly who they help and how varies greatly. While griffons are always good, they need not be principled, and they certainly are not faultless. Griffons have a strong taboo against attacking other griffons, although their sports can get quite rough.
Griffons mature quickly, becoming full-grown only 3 years after hatching. Young griffons can thus be quite naive, despite having an average intelligence slightly greater than human. Griffons wait several years after maturity to find a mate. Monagamous relationships are the norm.
Many griffons deny the legend of the cauldron, and even their magical origins. But while there are alternate theories, they have not won over the bulk of Pyrathia.
