Two ideas with the same goal: making death more newbie/lowbie friendly. Teh_Peso wrote: Ghosts should speak in godtongue >_<, so everyone can understand! I like this idea. It would eliminate often-frustrating language barriers between lowbies and priests that don't have all their languages mastered. The only potential problem would be ghosts mimicking immortals. There would need to be some differentiation between ghosts and immortals. Alshain wrote: In fact, perhaps this should be automatic for status > Novice < Journeyman?
Why not make an auto manifest toggle? Set it to "on" as default. By the time they know how to switch it off, they'll probably know that they need to manifest after death. |

Because half of the time the person that just died might not even have enough mana to manifest, and even if they do have enough mana to manifest depending on the class/race that manifest might only last one tick. |

Cultural diversity is one of the strong selling points of SK. Not being able to understand each other perfectly encourages language learning at early age and enhances racial discriminations. Ghosts that speak universal would really take a big chunk out of that. Previously when the auto manifestation idea was suggested, the idea that went along was that the mana cost would be 'free' for the duration, until death arrives to take ghosts. During this time the ghost also cannot move. Those that don't manifest can move. |

The vast majority of characters speak every language - and most of them are fluent in all of them. At best, languages are currently just a hindrance to lowbies and a different color text for everyone else. Death sucks enough that I don't think it needs to be kept down in the name of cultural diversity. |

I prefer the idea of ghosts being audible even when not manifested. You can hear ethereal, camouflaged, hidden, or invisible people, why not dead people? And the dead can send tells, manifested or not. Why not let them have 'says' too? |

I see no problem with ghosts being heard while not manifested. |

So you stick around longer. If you don't manifest you go to the river pretty quickly. Plus then they can see you emoting if you want. Or see what you look like/who you are. |

You can aslo manifest directly to people you know in order to more effectively communicate. Dead tells are easily interupted without spirit sight. |
