I've always found it kind of strange that a scout/barbarian can butcher or skin a corpse and suddenly let everyone know who it is just by their remains. I can't really see any IC reason to why they would get a supernatural knowledge of the corpse they just butchered, and it would stop stupid things like "I butchered you to identify how you were" or "I killed you so I could skin you and find out your name" which I have had happen to me on more then one occasion.

My suggestion is,
When butchering, make the steaks desc be of the type of creature it is that got butchered.
Eg, you butcher a human corpse you get "A steak of a human." instead of revealing the name.

And for skinning,
Perhaps the same thing, "A skin of a human." unless the person recognises that skin or maybe add the adjective in there of the person also
Eg "A skin of a fat male human."

Supernatural knowledge coming from butchered bodies really doesn't make sense.

I'm *pretty* sure this was addressed and fixed months ago.

Was it?
I've been meaning to bring it up for a while now, but never gotten round to it.

If it had been just ignore this whole thread.
I don't pay enough attention :P

Yes. If it's still happening you need to log it.

I think the same should go for severed limbs and corpses, too, though. I can't tell you how mad I was (at the sheer flaw in the logic of this) to have my corpse ID'd for my name, even though the character who did so had never met mine.

Yes, limbs also are a problem.

I can understand the IC understanding behind identifying corpses however.

Identify is fine as it is. It's a magical means of determining...identities! Surprise surprise that it works on corpse.

That needs no changing.

Magical means of divination should provide identity. Mundane things like being butchered, skinned, or dismembered should not reveal identity. I think that's simple enough for me. I know there was a change recently which took away some of the identifying parts involved with butcher and dismembering, but I don't know if it was intended to make it completely impossible or just not obvious at first glance.

Identify is a pretty mundane spell.

I realize no one is going to concede the point, so I'll just STFU now.
