what affects a successful sneak??

My strong, nimble, but only healthy halfling tried sneaking almost 30 times in a row before finally getting it.

This has happened a couple times before.

he obviously slept through sneaking class....

Does Con have anything to do with it, does riding a mount have anything to do with it?

Or is he just having a bad day?

Sneak should be changed to an everlasting affect. Meaning you type sneak and you always think you are sneaking. Whether or not someone actually sees this is another story, but you think you slip by everyone undetected.

As to current chance of success, no idea.

You no longer feel stealthy.

If you are a halfling, every time you type "sneak" you'll enter sneak mode.

If you repeatedly type sneak, as shown above, it will say you no longer feel stealthy, but the messages are actually just in the wrong order. I'm still in sneak mode in the above example.

Innate sneak does fail sometimes. However, there's a very small chance of that happening unless you're wearing armor that gives you skill penalties.

Confusion over the sneak messages comes up so often that it should qualify for a FAQ entry.

Speaking of which, it'd be really nice and useful to have a way to verify whether one is sneaking/hiding or camoflagued. I always thought it sounds weird when people ask others to tell them whether they're hidden from view or moving soundlessly.

There are plenty of ways to check camo, ask any scout worth his paint kit.

As for hide I'd kinda like to see a you slip into the shadows message. Though again there are ways to check it, but only by breaking it. Unless there is a way I've not found yet.

Humming armor can affect sneak. One or two pieces is okay, but if you have like a whole suit of humming, it doesn't seem to work for me.

Try it!

There are ways to check for hide and camo that don't break either.
