First, I'd like to say WOOT! Thank you D for minotaurs.

Now, just a suggestion about their weaknesses. Centaurs lost energy weakness and it was given to minotaurs, this is fine.

I propose that sonic weakness be removed. I think this should just stick with giants and be unique to giants. Let minotaurs have their own unique weakness.

Instead, make them weak against taunt in the regard that once taunted, it doesn't matter how many people join into the fight, a minotaur just will not come to his senses. Also, extend the amount of time it takes for them to shake it off.

The counterbalance to this is that taunting a minotaur, no matter what point of combat you are in or what position of a group you are in, the minotaur WILL gore you. Automatic success with a bonus to damage. If you're third row taunting him, he will gore not only you, but everyone in front of you trying to get to you.

consult the minotaur helpfile:

"Although their bovine ancestry makes
them tremendously strong and tough, minotaurs anger easily and are particularly prone to acting before thinking about the consequences of their actions. When flying off the handle, minotaurs tend to gore victims with their horns, which grow during puberty regardless of gender."

This makes perfect sense rp wise and mechanically for minotaurs.
I would also like to see minotaur barbarians have a bonus to successfully going berserk as well as landing fury.

On a side note, does the sonic weakness mean that bard chords and songs are extra damaging or more likely to hit those races? Because really, it should if they are weak against sounds.

Rofl, I'd love to see minotaurs gore a whole group of players in one go, that'd be sick.

I also assumed the sonic weakness applied to bards and their songs. Specifically chords, but that's just my interpretation of the help file.

EDIT: Do sonic damage weapons count as lightning damage? I don't see anything about a sonic/sound weakness in their helpfile. I've never played one so I can't say for sure however.

sonic damage weapons are sonic damage, not lightning damage.

Giants are...or were...weak against sonic. D might have changed that too and I just didn't notice. I haven't played in awhile as it is and there are a lot of changes here.

Again, good job Dulrik.

I agree that an increased chance of berserk would make sense, so would some sort of boost to headbutt.

Of course we don't know how strong minotaurs are going to end up being and barbarian is already the most suited class for them so I don't know that either would be a good thing.

As proposed, why on earth would anyone want to taunt a minotaur if they would sufffer an automatic gore attack? N_G

If they have a group with a healer and can sustain the damage, it would ensure that the minotaur was in no circumstances getting away.

Correct.

Incorrect. Giants never had a sonic weakness, it was always mental and lightning. There was no player race that had a sonic weakness, therefore it was already unique to minotaurs.

I'm not excited about the weakness to taunt. It sounds like it could be as much of a benefit as a drawback.

Yes, of course. Sonic weapons only came around later. The original sonic damage in the game was when we introduced bards.

Minotaurs already get a damage boost to headbutt. They have horns on their head, so it's naturally going to hurt more. There may also be other benefits to headbutting with a minotaur. Barbarian is definitely the most common minotaur race/class combination "in the wild".

Alright, that's awesome. I really wish you would state these things somewhere, though, instead of just handing out pieces of information every once in a while.

I was going to recite a few reasons why it would still happen but I won't for 2 reasons:

1) I cannot PK, so my tactics are likely useless.
2) Even if the tactics I was going to list would be worthwhile, it's in-game info or some rot.

But I can still see taunt being used when an insta-gore will occur.

I do have thoughts regarding the sound-sensitivity of minotaurs and since my WIS is far below omni, I'm going to voice them to the derision of others.

If minotaurs are so sensitive to sound, I'd think a bard singing any negative song or any chord would affect the grouped minotaur but without the aggro attached to it. And songs of healing should benefit any minotaur in the room, regardless of group status.

Also, I don't know if the lightning spells have any sonic effect but they should. Lightning doesn't occur without thunder and if the lightning is very close (like actually hitting you) the thunder will be very loud.
