Finney proposed this idea on some thread I read around the time of the bonanza, I thought it was a really good idea to be honest, and don't want it getting lost to history.

Dulrik's whole stance on leveling for as long as I can remember is: "A master character should be a complete character." Yet there are many aspects of master level characters that are infact not complete at all.

1. They can't hold items above their level.
2. They can't really have any of their equipment enchanted for the above reason.
3. In the case of scouts, they can't find many herbs that are above master level.
4. Characters can't locate anything higher than their level.
5. Characters have not recieved all their attribute points by Master.

Number five is the big one. A master level character is quite simply missing 5 of his/her attribute points, and those points go a long ways towards making a character more powerful.

Finney simply suggested that in order to gravitate the overall mood less away from GM and more towards just getting Master to be competative, that characters should recieve all their stat points in their first 25 levels. Three at creation, then the 25 consecutive stat points you would get for leveling all the way to GM.

I personally think the idea makes complete sense, and would indeed go a long ways towards making characters more competative at master. I'd be all for this change.

I've got mixed feelings on this idea to be honest..I mean I see the point behind it. But at the same time, the way it's set up, your character becomes gradually more powerful as they advance up the ranks. Stat points are a big thing as they help a ton. While it does make sense, I don't know..It's just something about the characters becoming powerful too quickly. But I suppose for the lack of equipment you would lose it'd make up for it.

The question is, would it be enough to deter people from just rushing to GM still? It's mostly the loot that drives people to GM isn't it?

Here's Kin's cake. He wants to eat it, but he also wants to admire all the pretty little frosting flowers.

You backpedal some more, Kin. "Let's make GM something not so necessary." "Oh wait, don't change the most important thing about getting those last 10 levels. That would be bad."

I don't think it'd really make characters to powerful quickly, people already mod their stats to max at low levels anyways, they simply replace those mods with actual attribute points as they level. Your skills you gain as you level are the big reason characters get more powerful.

Most people would still probably try to rush to GM anyways, so they can enchant their gear, hold their loot, etc... But for those that are content to stay at master, it would be a boon to them and make them more competative. This would actually be more of a buff for the the non twink/vet players who don't know where to get leveling stat mods, and who don't feel compelled to rush to GM.

Ah right, I see your point now. Have to admit, this does seem interesting. It'd be neat to see how much of an impact it'd make if implemented. I'm going to disregard Ilk's comment.

It's natural to dislike getting called out. I don't blame you.
