I know this is used in MMO's a lot, but I think it can be useful and make combat a bit more interesting.

Beginning attack:
Can be a low lvl skill/spell/song, to start the combo. Could also be a new skill/spell/song entirely

Continuing attack:
Can only be done after a successful beginning attack (successful as in it hits the target fully) this can be a mid-lvl skill/spell/song that gets a small buff of some sort (dmg, increased art, etc).

Finishing attack:
This can only be done after a successful continuing attack. This skill/spell/song has very large buffs (similar to above). This would be a higher lvl skill/song/spell.

By this, this could make lower lvl skills/spells/songs useful again so that you can get that super beefy bonus on the finishing attack, and to a lesser extent continuing attack.

Just to give an example:
Warlock Lightning Combo:
Starts off with Shocking grasp
Continues with Lightning bolt (a temp buff to art).
Finishes with Chain Lightning (Large buff to dmg and small buff to art).

Obviously stuff can be done for every class.

Why would you ever want to end with chain lightning, unless you're completely stupid?

I was trying to think of a 3 same element type combo. I know that I wouldn't do it.

Actually if you have RE up, it wouldn't hurt you at all.

Chain lightning doesn't hit the caster anyways. It's everyone else in the caster's group that gets hit.

Unless you're luring, that's a shoddy tactic. It would mean that you'd have to take everything 1 at a time.

Stop focusing on the stupid chain lightning. I was using it as an example of a same 3-element combo, geez.

Chain lightning aside :P

I find it an intriguing concept. Not the faintest idea how hard it would be to implement/balance, but . . . could be a fun addition. More flavor. More tactics.

Like rogue would be backstab, circlestab, hamstring?

Barbarian would be bash, dirt-kick, headbutt?

Taunt, dirt kick, trip?

Nah.

Every class would need new skills...and that would suck.

I think we should change the mud's name to "Mortal Kombat Kingdoms".
