Taking an idea from another thread - we should replace banishment with deathmark the way it used to work. I feel like it's too permanent the way it is now and doesn't allow faction leaders enough control.

Characteristics:
-A tribunal leader can deathmark anyone at any time (subject to RP restrictions, of course).
-Guard NPCs and bounty NPCs will engage automatically
-Additional crimes will stack with the deathmark, so if you're deathmarked +1 theft charge, you'll be thrown in jail, have one piece of equipment confiscated, and executed at the end of it. If you're just deathmarked, you get executed on the spot, no confiscation.
-The deathmark is not permanent. Once you're put to death, the charge is cleared and all coin taken from your body

Possible drawbacks:
-Faction leaders just deathmark everyone who even hints of being an enemy as a precaution [I don't have a big problem with this, but if it were rampant a few well-placed curses should solve the problem]
-People turn themselves in to be killed just to get around the law [you'd be doing this at your own risk, because the faction leader could just DM you again]
-Factions without active leaders would suffer [Ok with me. If you don't like it, promote more active faction leaders. Also, enemies can still be outlawed the old fashioned way]
-Requires more IMM oversight [Yes, but hopefully could be kept to a minimal increase]

This would solve two things: 1) stop people who are clearly and openly at war with another faction from being able to walk freely through their streets 2) Allow characters who were once enemies to slip back in under the radar (effectively requiring more active player involvement to keep them out) and get back into the "game"

Oh, and if it's possible to code, shouldn't tribunal NPCs automatically engage tribunal NPCs from warring factions?

Thoughts?

OMG there was a reason why the banish command was changed. Tribunal leaders were abusing the command.

This would just take that abuse to a whole other level.

Great, super simple solution:

Make it cost money to use deathmark.

Two things:

1) Banish is far more powerful than deathmark. It's permanent and I don't like having such permanent aspects to the game. I'm advocating leaders get full control of deathmark, not banishment (and that we get rid of banishment altogether).

2) I'd rather have a bit of overuse on DM than blatant enemies walking around in warring kingdoms unobstructed. I think Marfik's idea of DM costing money would help cut down on abuse.

I agree. Banishment really..Really sucks. Once you're banished, well it's impossible to get unbanished really, especially in cases of warring factions or necros etc. The game literally patrols your city for you, and it really doesn't create any sense of RP. I support this idea 100%

I've not seen a single argument that supports why Deathmark should be brought in. Though some tweaks to banishment could be in order.

I thought I had laid out my reasoning pretty clearly.

1. Leaders need more control over who is not allowed in a kingdom during wartime

2. Banishment is too permanent

I assume people either disagree with one or both of these premises or they believe the potential for abuse outweighs the benefit. Which is it and why?
