Well, I've finally been hit with the new magma. In my opinion it seems a bit overpowered, especially if D wants to move towards longer combat. It seems to me like warlocks just got a new and improved harm.

xxx utters the words, 'waowa gsgrul'.
xxx unleashes a torrent of magma on you, charring your flesh severely!
That really did HURT!
Your concentration has been disrupted!
You howl in agony as the magma clings to your body!

[HP: 48%] [ME: 51%] [PE: 86%]

That's the stick. With enough reflex it could be cut down to about 25% straight damage or so, is what it looks like. It took a grand total of two magma sprays and the cling to kill a GM hellion. If this is how it's meant to work, then I'll shut up and take a step back from pk.

Everyone complains about magma spray but they don't say crap about all of the other instant death (or virtual instant death) spells there are. Where is the crying over them?

FoD can be enchanted against, petrify enchanted against, charm enchanted against, cleave only instakills like 1/10 of the time, magma now if its enchanted against only does half damage, which if you didnt know is full damage for all other spells as the cling is actually double damage. Elite

Petrify = one casting, you die.

FoD = one casting, you die.

QQ more?

The other instant death spells are -much- easier to save against than magma spray. FoD is also affected by MP/MR, petrification is also affected by MR. Magma spray only has reflex as a save, which is the hardest enchant to put on an item, and completely ignores MP and MR.

Yup, we had known this would happen if the chunk of magma spray ignored magical protection. Most adventuring and hybrid classes without some protective spell buffs on them would be 2 shotted. Wasn't the idea suggested by the majority for only the residual burn portion of the spell to ignore magical protection?

Exactly, even if you reflex it fot the half damage, its still hitting a normal full damage since the cling is double.

Fepel, do you not remember when you kept trying to petrify Seram only to fail? There's a huge difference. FoD isn't that difficult to resist, and has a much longer casting time. Petrification is the same way. Right now what can you do to resist magma? Get crappy vials of resist elements or find scripted lewt. I haven't tested the vials yet, because last I knew they were fairly worthless. It might have stopped me from dying, but I still would have been taken out of the fight in two casts. My biggest point is that I thought D wanted longer combat, not shorter combat.
