Did the recent changes improve melee combat speed?
Yes, melee combat is the right pace now. 24%  24%  [ 5 ]
Yes, melee combat is better but still too fast. 38%  38%  [ 8 ]
No, the changes didn't affect combat speed in a desirable way. 10%  10%  [ 2 ]
I haven't played enough since the changes and I shouldn't vote, but I'm going to pick this useless option instead of voting later when I might actually have an opinion worth mentioning. 29%  29%  [ 6 ]

There were good arguments made recently that melee combat was so fast that there was no strategy involved. Please this thread for more details:
http://www.shatteredkingdoms.org/forums ... hp?t=16936

Some changes that were made during the 05/02/2008 update were aimed at slowing down melee combat. They included the new prone status, magical flight changes, fatigue fixes/changes and a few other tweaks.

I encourage you to not to vote until you've experienced the changes made for at least a few days. Please elaborate on your experiences with the new changes.

I voted. Melee is obviously better due to the changes but is still too fast. There is no change in this code to affect a giant merc/barb, or a tribunaled/hammered/harlied warrior typing 'kill' on a hybrid and killing them within two rounds, even though that hybrid is in the second row.

The solution is to differentiate in damage dealt by [REDACTED] materialed/named weapons and their elite versions. A steel battlespear should do less than Tregr, the Legendary Spear. A steel greatsword should do less than Soulshard.

The damage that warriors currently do should be the equivalent of what a warrior does with only the best weapons in the game. Everyone else should be doing far reduced damage.

If that happened, Peso actually WOULD win SK.

If you were going to do anything remotely like that, wimp all melee damage and add innate enhancements to certain weapons--like enchants, only not removable.

The speed is good, I think Hellions need a bit of a buff right now tho, but the rest of the combat classes are looking about right from my POV.

I like the changes, and maybe we could even do some more, even without straight nerfs (some buffs to certain other things, such as the amount of melee damage soaked up by armor, could have helped).

In general I think melee damage should be about 75% what it is now, with the best weapons dealing like 90% what weapons do now. It definetly is a buff to casters in the sense that they will be able to get off more spells, but thats a good thing considering most small group battles are decided by the third round anyways.

Give it some time. There hasn't been any serious PVP that I've seen since the changes...Give it a week or two and I'd say everyone will have a fair assessment.
