It doesn't sound horrid, the warning comes from the connection between the summoner and the elemental, is it not?

Could be changed to, 'You feel your elemental's bond to this plane weaken' to make it better fitting for a sleeper, instead of 'You see'.

Seriously, I see no reason why warlocks shouldn't get a message while sleeping.
