Alright,

One thing that's always bugged me with my priests is the ability to manifest to anyone they greeted, no matter how unwelcome. While there are a few rooms in the game that prevent this, these rooms tend to be an exception, rather than the norm. Therefor, I propose an auto manifest option be added. (Or, at least, included with quiet, since these options would tend to be used at the same time).

The first reason I'd love to see this is purely to not have the annoyance factor. I hate it when people just randomly manifest to me when I'm in the middle of an RP.

Secondly, and probably more importantly, its abuseable. An enemy can randomly manifest to one of the greeted party members and relay valuable information to everyone else. IMO, while exorcism is useful in sending the manifestee away, a far better use of it is to just do it when the person was killed, rather than after the fact...

Just my thoughts...

I played a priestess who absolutely refused to resurrect someone if they manifested to her more than once. First time: she'd flip the heck out at them. Second time: exorcism without a word, all tells following ignored or responded to very rudely. This was because she was and Adept and she didn't want people to manifest to her if she happened to be doing something cultish.

So, I can see where an auto manifest option would be quite valuable. Even though the spying while a ghost option is super fun. :P

I vote against preemptive exorcisms of as yet to be ghosts. Limited classes have exorcism and ghostly spying is not abuse.

Yeah, there isn't a legitimate reason why a ghost shouldn't be able to haunt who they like when they like.

When something happens "in the middle of an RP" that becomes part of the RP. If your Eulogy to the great dead paladin is interrupted by spirits of mischievous rogues or your secret death cult rituals are discovered by a haunting ghost then that's how it goes.

It's also the ability to interrupt something important that makes most people hesitate about manifesting to someone they don't know very well. If auto-manifest were implemented, I think there would be a lot more manifestations to priests.

Auto-manifest would be like the ability to turn your cell phone on vibrate. If someone calls you at an inopportune moment, you can't blame them because you forgot to turn your ringer off. Similarly, you wouldn't be able to blame someone because you forgot to turn auto-manifest off.

Auto exorcism...Really?

lol, I think exorcism spying = great ;)

*chuckle* If being able to manifest was controlled by a player able to prevent manifesting from an OOC toggle that pretty much means the majority of players, not wishing to be inturrupted, would render the manifest command useless. I'd be against this. I don't see haunting enemies as abusive. Some good RP can come out of it.

If priests/shamans had some kind of clerical/spell means to keep spirits away that were across the alignment spectrum that they had to consentrate on, that'd be different.

No one says you have to return someone who manifests to you. There is a 'rudeness' factor that can come into play when manifesting is done without warning. A person who can return the dead can determine how they're going to react to such a thing, if at all. It seems to me characters are aleady handling the situation via RP. I see no reason to code/wire things further.

Alright, I usually dont care when people manifest, but sometimes its totally inconvenient. Like, ill be on the way to the temple of murder or under morea with quiet mode on, so they manifest wondering why im not accepting tells. Yes, auto manifest would be EXTREMELY useful.

*chuckle* I've caught people just outside there, being both the dead one, and the one bringing back the dead one *shrug* No one said you had to bring them back.

I don't think dying is ever convenient. ;)
