This is a quote from a newbie help thread, which I found rather striking:

But more or less what Thuban is saying is that good and evil in this game are determined by a character's feelings and intentions moreso than their actions themselves.

It's a pretty postmodern way of approaching the matter of morality in the game, and one which (I believe) ruins the few remaining meaningful structures of morality within the game, such as a paladin's vows or a hellion's code.

How true do you guys think this is, or should be?

I think the morality in the game is really only comparable with the morality in the game, and the morality in the game is pretty well structured based on the morality in the game.

It's a tough debate imo. but personally I've always felt that "almost" everything can be justified within alignments.. For instance when I played my Hammar, he would not have been against letting an ev0l person live, if he felt this was a means to an end which would rid the world of a greater evil.

Now I am not saying that choosing to team up with the lesser evil for the greater good is always justifiable, but in rare cases it can be.

Really I think I am just advocating that I see this as a non-static thing... And I am rambling.

I don't know, but I suspect you would have to reference the morality in the game.

Moral are defined by the culture in question. While there are many similarities between cultures (this is because those rules help enforce the cohesion of society) they are not absolutes.

Now for SK. It really needs to be clear cut. Or we will have a bunch of Ardith's running around killing people for no other reason than who they hang out with. Moral realism, doesn't work in games like this that has alignments.
