Post subject: | [Idea] Area command structure, re: Achernar |
Achernar brought up an interesting and desirable idea in the newbie help. Since it was a tangent, I thought I'd post it here. As Achernar said, it's nonsensical to no longer see areas listed once they fall below your level range. He suggested there be a mechanism to see those areas as well, and I agree. My idea would be to add a current/obsolete toggle to all area commands, where current is default. Area current will show all areas within your range. Area obsolete will show all areas below your range. Area zhenshi current... Area zhenshi obsolete... Area discovered current... Area discovered obsolete... etc, etc. Thoughts? |

It actually would be helpful to be able to see all areas even when you're GM, so that if you're helping a lower character you can give them coordinates to certain locations. |

That is is exactly when I first noticed they disappeared. A lower character asked me for advice, and still not knowing the areas locations that well myself I did not remember. I tried to look there but it was gone |

I noticed it when I found the area 'The Ice Fortress' on my gm necro and got excited that I might have found the new cabal HQ, realized it was an apprentice area, and promptly logged off, disappointed. |

I've wanted this for a while, but was too lazy to suggest it. Be awesome if we could >area mentor and get the areas that work for mentor, etc. Help those of us with rotten memories help out the youngsters. |

The area command is self explanatory. All you need to say to your noob is "Have you looked into what *area* might be appropriate for you to train in to accomplish your goals at becomming stronger". I said bad idea because there are more important things to be dealt with and because I just dont like you. |

The area command might be self-explanatory, but it's also only the vaguest of helps for the true newbie. Granted, we could say "Now, young newbie, I need you to think for me. Think of areas. Now tell me all of the areas you can think of that you sense are around your level, and I'll try to tell you the ones that might be best for you. It's not a whole new command, it's a tweak to make an existing command more helpful. And it wasn't 40's idea, it was Achernar's. Look at the newbie board. |

Actually I believe Lirimaer gets credit for that idea, I just repeated something else she said about the command I agreed with her on. It just hadn't been brought it up yet. |

Wow! I did something right?! Holy heck! Stop the presses! Actually, being an old character and people ask me where to level, I get so confused where to send them. When I can't look at the list, I can't think about all the various combinations. |
