I think titles should be a requirement once you hit Master~. I personally hate seeing champ/gm characters who don't have a title.

And, I think IMMs should police titles, like they do names. [REDACTED] stuff like "Penguin Lover" shouldn't be allowed. Even if you're a drunken sprite follower of Marfik, that is a [REDACTED] title. Not to single that person out or anything, but it was the only one on the Who list at the moment.

AFAIK title's are supposed to be IC, and is meant to act sort of like a "who is xxx" thing. Like

[--- ---] Kaniar, Illusionist of the Maelstrom

wow, I bet that guy is a mage of some kind!

[--- ---] Aiden - Hunter of Enlightenment

he most likely is a scout!

[--- ---] Anishinaabe, Soldier of Morea, Spear of the Ancients

I bet he's in a certain cabal!

[--- ---] Tariel Winters, Penguin Lover

and...she is a [REDACTED]. :drunk:

I'm all for policing titles to keep nonsense off what's supposed to be an IC feature, but what's the rationale for forcing people to have one whether they want it or not? Besides your personal taste, of course.

Because it's like a "who is" thing. Everyone SHOULD have at least heard about a champ/gm(and probably master too, though I could see putting the requirement at champ) character at some point. They're supposed to be like the greatest warriors/mages/wtfever in the realms.

I don't care if you're Mr. Top Secret Assassin(not that this can be RP'd anyways, due to so many different mechanic issues) people will have at least heard rumors about you.

What reason is there to NOT have a title?

It seems to me that if you think someone -should- have heard about someone, but hasn't then someone probably hasn't interacting enough to warrant gaining the information. The fact that somebody's mastered all their basic skills doesn't mean that everyone's going to have some clue of who they are if they're an absolute nobody, moreso if they have no interest in drawing undue attention to themselves.

Titles are, and shout remain so, an ego trip in my opinion. They represent actual IC information that a player gets by no other means than a simple "who". Not by rumor, nothing. Simply by being telepathically in touch with everyone in the world. If someone wants the benefit of rumors about other players, they should actually go out and get them, IMO. Roleplay, and all that.

Actually, it more than likely means the person without the title is at fault, if noone has even heard of them ICly. Because the only way for half~ the MUD or more to not have at least heard about someone, is for that someone to not be interacting with other PCs.

An example of a character without a title, who should probably have one...again, not to single anyone out or anything. But the character Bibbi has been around for like at least 2 months now, is GM, and I believe actively engages in PK. And has no title. All the characters that it matters to, know what her class/race/wtfever is, regardless of if she has a title or not.

I think titles add more flavor or whatever you want to call it, to the game.

There is very little reason for a champ or GM character to not have a title.

The PC characters that are Master+ are like the Heroes and Villains of Pyrathia, they're more important than your average person or whatever. A master+ level character can't really be an "absolute nobody" they had to work hard to get there, and they can do things most people can't and do them better than those that can.

well, just as I'm sure there's been plenty of super super smart or super strong or super religious, evil, what have you people who have lived quiet lives irl doing their things without getting well known for it, I don't think it's fair to force reputations on people who may not either deserve or desire them.
