I am a returning player, and I wanted to post an Idea I had around warlocks.

Since it seems water is under-represented in their skill set, I want to suggest changing "shocking grasp" to a water based spell. I imagine it would be easy to code. Just change the damage to cold based/ or water based. Leave all the effects and range and what not. And change the name to ... freezing grasp ? Cold fist? Drowning hand ?

That would give Warlocks more than just cone of cold to represent the water element. And also progress better than shocking grasp to lightning bolt.

I'm going to partially de-rail, with a slightly different way to approach this. What if we removed a spell or two from warlocks (or changed one or two) so that a warlock gets a similar spell to specialize, but instead of choosing weapons, they choose an element?

For instance, if a warlock chose to "specialize" in fire, then in fights where the weather is hot, his damage is increased, whereas one who chose cold, the damage is decreased? A rough idea, to be sure, but I'm sure you get the point.

I'll make a warlock today and specialize in 'air'. That way, I can get a bonus to my damage anytime I'm not fighting under water.

With the recent buff to magma I wouldn't expect any changes/modifications to warlocks in the near future.

Since your returning you're probably not even aware of the change. Magma is now no longer affected by MP or MR. They can only save against the cling based on reflex.

Oh, and that spell you want to change it now gives a short term de-buff to reflex saves.

Sleepers idea would be nice if SK's system had something similar to feats in D&D, but it doesn't so things like that will never happen.

What if it was the same spell but the damage message is changed?

Warlocks could do with a hurricane spell (working similar to a certain cabal ability [god I hate having to say that]), and perhaps a snowstorm spell that works like a certain religion ability (only not fire, but cold).

Hopefully that's ambiguous enough that the imms won't have a throwdown.

I was basically saying, because I can imagine how many things are on the list to code... that yes, just change the damage type... and the name, keep the reflex de-buff, keep the touch, keep the base damage. And that would seem an easy thing to do. But I don't code...so who knows.

Sleepers idea has merit. But yes I think thats a bit much of a workload. But hopefully he'll start a new thread to discuss class specialization.
