Could always just make it so that the town in question grabs the cash in your bank account the second the crime is reported instead of waiting until you turn yourself in. Force people to take the risk of carrying it around on themselves or stashing it before they do anything wrong. Make sense.... if they've already convicted you before you even turn yourself in and have complete access to your money, that they would simply take it before you can stash it. Not much they can do about their loot.

This was intended as a reply to a post in another thread. For some reason I can't seem to find the delete function for this.

The moment you get reported for a crime, you should get instantly transported to jail, fined, stripped, amputated and deloused.

Funny how you're all saying no. I agree with the logic of the statement, being its completely plausible. I know people don't want to lose all their stashed cash though. Since when have we let logic and reason interfere though.

I think it's completely implausible that kingdoms have control over the universal-banks, or else the leader of the Peacekeepers could just take away all the money of the darkies at their whim, and the leader of the Black Hand could take away all the money of the lighties at their whim. Stupid idea.

Well I would think if that kind of idea was implemented that it would only be based off of the amount of currency that was independently deposited in that particular bank. Not universally like you're thinking, you're right the way you're stating it, that's just not the way I was thinking of it. Then people would just end up depositing everything in one place that they never plan on getting wanted in...and theeeeen money wouldn't be able to be transacted between banks quickly... (at least logically that is) Guess it isn't such a good idea after all. A valiant try Seraphiction!

You know, I do agree with that. Like I said, this was intended to be a suggestion for discussion in reply to another thread, rather than an idea in and of itself, but somehow I managed to post it top-level, and can't seem to remove it now.

It only represents part of my thoughts on the subject.

I'd like to see the whole system revamped, but that's a much larger change. Ideally, each country has its own banking system (because really, since when is the leadership of one country going to allow anothe country access to its banking?) , and the medieval leadership being what it is has the option of stripping anyone with local assets, the second they fall afoul of the law. Automatic win, as mentioned by Pushing40? No.

Yeah, it -does- allow people at war a 'loophole' of keeping their money in their own nation's bank, but this is a normal fact of war. Heck, the same can be applied to criminals. Accordingly, you get busted by someone you're at war with or have been attacking/robbing, you're going to lose the assets they have access to, everything they can get their hands on when they catch you, equipment, goods and otherwise. This isn't the 20th century.

It seems to me that after a certain point (re: stacking crimes), people should be considered an enemy of the state, and treated accordingly whether they turned themselves in or not. The 'reality' of the game is that execution & death are not a preventative technique.

The suggestion itself is logical enough, it's the system as it exists that is illogical, the idea of a worldwide bank that any single nation can grab funds from at any time. After all, if they really had this level of access, why can't Taslamar confiscate the assets of people from the North who have not broken the law, or vice versa, since they're all using the same system?

This is probably a holdover from the original banking code that you'll find on most MUDs, and as such, it means that the coder(s) probably end up having to modify heavily or start over from scratch if they want to set up a banking system that is divided by nationality.
