I have heard two schools of thought on this subject, whether a merc should train in wisdom or hp, your thoughts? |

Well, I think that would depend on what kind of character you intend to play. Do you want to rely on a lot of mods, or do you prefer to have your stats pretty well close to max naturally so you can rely more on enchanted gear? What are there more easily accessible mods of, that you know you can personally get without a lot of trouble/help? I'd ask myself those two questions first, before deciding. |

And you can always go over your max HP trains with moar HP mods. Wis hits a cap and thats that. |

I also always thought that if you got an item with mana or hp that it will only bring you up to your max of mana/hp trains? |

Nope. HP, ME, (And surely PE as well, it just doesn't matter) have no maximum limit from EQ. As for the thread's question: It depends on what you plan to do. There are three reasons you'd want WIS as a merc: Scripted items, cabal spells, and will saves. If I was playing a merc that I planned on joining a trib with, I'd settle for mediocre WIS, and try to find a mod if I ever used any scripted items that had a high mana cost.. If I was planning on joining a cabal, I'd probably aim for strong WIS/INT, depending on which cabal I planned on joining, and leave it unmodded. |
