Honestly I think the Final Strike spell has very little IC uses or use whatsoever. The few cases it can be used effectively ICly its concentration/casting time really doesn't allow.

Few might know, I have been giving myself a little break from SK lately to get RL matters under control. But I found myself with some free time last night and was quite bored, I logged into SK but nothing interesting was happening, so I got out my old Baldurs Gate and Neverwinter Nights cds and started playing them. And I noticed a spell that I think would be really awesome in SK to replace the Final Strike for sorcs but not have it as such a low level spell like in the D&D sets.
So here it is.

Call Familiar.

A powerful and knowledgeable mage once they reach master would be able to call their own familiar, a life time companion that would grow with them. The sorc would be able to choose their familiar once they are able, or maybe just have it based on the sorcs alignment. Once summoned it would be directly tied to the Sorc and his spirit, and will not leave until the mage them self dies or something kills it, and if it is killed the sorc himself would feel as though he just died leaving his spirit disorientated and fatigued. Unable to call another until that fatigue has left.

The familiars them self, should have their own set of powers, directly linked to the sorceror should be able to channel his powers even cast his basic spells (ama-app) but also, the sorceror is able to take control of his familiar and see through its eyes. More so leave his own body and enter the familiar being able to go about from the mages body and scan the areas. This should have a reasonable concentration and mana drain, so the mage cannot do this for long. Only to travel a short distance and scout the area quickly. While in this state, the sorcerors body is left completely defenseless, in a trance and unaware of what happens about it. Though once struck, the sorceror would instantly lose focus and return to his own body.

This would provide some very interesting RP concepts for the sorcs, and even bring in some new tactics to PK by using the familiars.

I have no idea how hard it would be to code however, or if anyone really wants to bring in a spell like this. It is just an idea I had that I thought would be really neat.

Comments and thoughts?

This is a neat idea, but I'm not sure it will ever happen (And definitely not very soon). For one, it's very complicated and would take time to code. Secondly, sorcs are not very short in supply, being one of the favorite classes to play (Being able to enchant your own EQ is a wonderful thing, along with all the other utility they get.)

Most importantly, considering that sorcs aren't really hurting for players, it doesn't seem like the wisest way to spend time as a developer. There are other things that could use attention *Cough cough* voodoo *Cough.*

I love this idea, if for no other reason then the mere fact that it removes final strike from the game.

Plus, it sounds wicked. You could also expand on it, like increased maximum int of a sorc that has an active familiar, or increased mana regen... or different boosts for different familiars... or no boosts at all... rambling...

I'm off to bed!

Although this sounds awesome, it just seems like a better version of warlocks.

Awesome idea that I personally really like...but sorcs are already in a fight with priests for being the best class in the game, IMO. =/

I like the idea. It might be the same thing as the warlock spell but it would make sence. Not many people have any reason to cast Final Strike unless there is a war or the unlitmate sore loser move.

You can't see "final strike" as a way for a so-thought powerless mage to exert themselves completely in one last strike against a full heavy-armored enemy group of choice? As a sorc who has been attacked by such groups while I've been by myself, there's nothing better than getting an act of vengeance by final striking. And really, it's a lot of fun.

I've cast the spell ONCE, not even on my current sorc, so it's not like the spell is abused or anything. No reason to remove it. And I agree with Aneira about the idea - while it sounds good, it's too much like a warlock.

The problem is, although I love the idea behind final strike, any half decent and half brained group attacking a sorc like this the sorc won't survive long enough to cast it. As soon as someone notices that you've been concentrating on a spell for 3+ combat rounds they will run anyway.

Having a spell like this would give a far more practical use for a sorc.
Besides, I posted it to see others opinions anyway thanks for your input :)

That being said...I like the part about giving warlocks a penalty when their elemental dies.

That part though, was the idea that a familiar would be directly tied to a sorcs spirit and magical energies, and more to counteract the fact that once summoned it stays with you until you die. While an elemental is only conjured from another plane and is unable to stay in the realms for too long.

And elementals can quite easily be dispelled :P
