Did a search, and no post on this subject came up on the first page, so I decided it was time for a new one.

The weather system, in particular that which governs wind, is nothing short of [REDACTED]. We have scheduled reboots every two days, and the rather unlucky tendency for winds everywhere from Morea and upwards, Losache and eastwards, Garazul and southwards and Everclear and westwards to be well above "very, very windy." raping the movement of anyone trying to move across this land, regardless of flight, along with this fact, actually severely reduces much enjoyment with this game.

I've honestly found myself logging off countless times because I got so pissed off at the fact that apparently only people with control weather or gate (and even the ones with gate are f..... in some regards) are allowed to get anywhere outside Pyrathia (and sometimes even particular places in Pyrathia).

I realize that the weather code is partly to add immersion and a feeling of realism, but honestly, it's doing more harm than good at this point.

I also realize that it recently got tweaked to be less insane just after reboots, but I can now, after a couple of months, say that it certainly was not tweaked enough.

Other opinions are welcome, but do keep the flames to a minimum, I've most likely heard all the "your mom's too windy" jokes out there already.

I think this may be directly attributed to the high shaman population of late who keep the weather prepped for call lightning as any good shaman would do.

I really don't see this as being any fault of the server or the wind code at all.

Call lightning does less damage when it's above 'very windy', so that's probably out of the question - not to mention that the particular areas which are affected the most aren't the most common theatre for battles. Wind does start out rather insane.

I agree with the original poster hurricane like winds would be alright over the ocean but putting them all over Pyrathia is just down right annoying. I'm all for shaman being able to make the weather worse for their lightning attacks but 66 knot wind constantly is stupid and stops a lot of people from accessing areas in the game they normally would be able to.

One example I can think of off the top of my head was in Elisair, I was stuck on one of the upper levels and the wind at 66 knots and I could not move up, down, or any direction - the wind was literally "knocking me senseless" I had to sit there for thirty minutes and ask everyone on the who list if they could change the weather, eventually someone came to my rescue but that kind of stuff is really lame especially for people who don't have a lot of time to invest into their characters.

I have yet to see any other shamans cast call lightning.

This was supposedly being fixed already but it's far, far from complete.

Scheduled reboots should not have anything to do with the weather. The weather is based around the time of year, which is unaffected by reboots. While it may not reset to the exact same weather after the reboot, it will reset to the same season which produces similar weather.

I don't think the scope of the recent changes was ever described, so people probably don't understand them.

Prior to the changes a few months ago, the weather for any area outside the main continent had never been set. They were using the defaults, which were stupid to begin with - 9 months of the year was very hot with very strong winds from the west, the other 3 months of the year were even hotter with hurricane winds from the north. This was universal for any area outside the main continent, regardless of compass direction.

I spent several days creating a plausible weather system based on seasons which are affected by how the axis of the sun orbiting the disc varies over the course of the year, which direction the wind would be blowing based on that, and how the weather would be impacted by air being drawn in from the freezing cold of the void beyond the disc as well as various landmass features. Then Achernar and I went and altered the weather for every area in the game to fit this new scheme.

There is literally no way you can compare the weather how it was to how it is now - it is just completely different. But that is not to say that there is never going to be high winds.

It's currently the month of Winter Wolf, which means that it is the winter months on the half of the disk that has the NW compass axis as its center. You should be seeing violent winter weather with winds from the northwest all the way into the Northern Wastes and Taslamar with moderating conditions as you continue to move to the southeast.

You didn't say where you were seeing the strong winds, but this would be my guess if it is not associated with casters changing the weather.
