Disease: Hoarding

What deters you from this game the most? That is the question I decided to post in the poll. And I believe it is a quite valid one for those who decide to take frequent sabbaticals from SK. Though what is the reason that you all decide to take these breaks? What makes Shattered Kingdoms so unbearable? In my opinion a major detriment to this MUD is hoarders. I hope to explain why, and perhaps we can think of a solution.

What?: It has come to my attention in a log on a different site that hoarding was in fact a disease that needs to be cured. I've played this game for quite a bit and have seen my fair share of hoarders but like I said once I read this log I thought "Why has nothing been done to end hoarding?" What is the mission statement for the staff of Shattered Kingdoms? Dulrik, if you would like to have your MUD flourish I believe the best thing to do is to end hoarding. As a former adamant player nothing got me more riled up then one character holding practically every scripted item in SK. I know it's poor form to call out these said "hoarders" even though we all know who they are.

Why is hoarding such a detriment? Imagine you are a new player, you come across Shattered Kingdoms and you very much enjoy it a lot so you play vehemently. You get to be quite a competent player yet you can never progress onto the upper echelon because the "elite players" keep to themselves and hoard items your character could put to good use.

How can one cure this disease? I think the only cure is to purge the hoarders, why not punish those who decide to hold the entire game in their cloaks? It makes Shattered Kingdoms a whole lot less fun to play.

I am well aware that this thread will turn into whines from those who do hoard, and many vociferous cries about how this is not a problem and then nothing will ever be done. Though can you blame me for trying?

While hoarders are definitely a problem, but the rpless pkers (most of them hoarders) are the greater problem though.

I actually did miss the times where the cabals had their chests emptied on the nightly reboot.

A possible solution to the hoarders. All items past a char's limit for that type of item will be stolen by thieves after 24-48hrs.

While there is 0 reason to hold onto armor for more than about a day, anymore than 1 piece (except gloves bc you can get spiked gauntlets) should be taken by thieves after 24-48hrs. Weapons are a slightly different matter, I can easily see a person having approx 3 weapons (or sets in case of swashies). Anything more just gets recycled after that time. So on, and so forth. That would then make hoarders bury them or stash them somewhere else when they log off. That would be the next step to stop hoarders. I do think that if hoarding is taken care of, then the rp will go up and people will actually get off of their (insert expletive).

It's a waste of time, Thran. All of the imms "favored" players are the ones doing the hoarding. Linarumien gracefully gave me the remnants of his hoard today, keeping only his sacred set and some +stat eq.

Still, good luck!

Lack of players around when I am for adventuring or role play at times. Hard to drum up excitement when you're so often 'alone.' Or at least, there are just times I feel I'm not making a lot of progress and it takes a lot of effort to find other people to meet as they're just not many around.

Working to improve it. Installed Cmud on a friend's machine this week and getting them acquainted. :)

What detrimentents the game to me is whiny [REDACTED]. Not joking, not a BS post, its all the god damn whining everyone does. Thran, you are PERFECTLY capable of going out and killing the hoarders in SK, so stfu, suck it up, and kill them?

People will always hoard, that is why people that love to kill hoarders should be killing the current hoarders.

Tired of the same whineful behavior of players, their being so full of demands for things they can't earn, and watching wanna-be twinks inside the game. Seriously guys, watching that is all boring, repulsive and ridiculous at the same time.

While I would love to go out and kill hoarders it is not within my characters RP to do so. So then what?

So, pay a hoarder to kill a hoarder, that would most likely kill the other hoarder anyways?
