Well assuming that your character is a pacifist or unwilling to fight others of like aura, then does that mean that persuade should not be used. I feel that a light aura bard should be able to persuade another light aura for a benefit, w/o having to be concerned about having to kill them when the bard fails. Please discuss and I'd like to know the imm thoughts on this.

I personally don't understand why persuade is hostile to begin with. Bards are pretty frail when not in a group and persuade has strict limitations on it's use. In my opinion, it shouldn't be a hostile action until the third or fourth repeated attempt, that is if it's possible to code that.

I can see a person getting upset and attacking someone if they keep pestering them to do something, but on the first attempt? No.

It's essentially charm person, forcing someone to do something regardless of their will. It makes sense that it's aggressive.

I see it more as *persuading* somone to do something.
Imagine, if you will, this scenario:

Quote:
"Mommy, please buy me that toy"

<100%><100%><100%>

A rich mother's scorpian hilted scimitar does UNSPEAKABLE THINGS to you.
A rich mother misses you.
Your punch misses a rich mother.
A rich mother starts to concentrate.

<30%><100%><98%>

A rich mother utters the words 'petrify'.
YOU HAVE BEEN KILLED
<0%><100%><98%>

I guess the NPCs are just bad at RP if they get that pissed that easily.

Don't confuse the skill "persuade" with a polite request due to its name. It's a magical mind-affecting supernatural talent that only a powerful bard can do, that can make you do things you wouldn't necessarily do. It's very much like charm person, except very short-term: It's essentially hypnotizing on crack.

Using your previous example, persuade is more like this:

"Dear, you should really throw that scimitar at our little girl."

Put in that light, it might make more sense as to why someone might respond in a hostile way if they realize what's going on (Read: if the persuade fails).

Nah. If you tried to do this, you'd get a "you can't persuade them to part with their belongings" message, since you can't use persuade to make anyone drop/give an item.

What about throw, though?

I'm going to bet, more or less in drunken randomness, no, because then an item would leave their posession.

I imagine persuade to be like a "Jedi mind trick". You may not notice it and you may think you're doing what you wanted to do anyway (and it may not be a malicious request), but if you do realize it you'd be pissed off that this person was trying to use their powers to manipulate you.
