>help mentor
[Training help] mentor

Syntax: mentor
mentor [on|off]

This command is somewhat unusual in that it functions differently depending on what level you have achieved.

If you are of Apprentice status or below, you are a student who is eligible
to be mentored. Students can use the mentor command to issue a call for
help from a mentor (experienced players) while in their newbie school or at an inn. Only mentors from your kingdom will receive a notification, with preference being given to mentors of your same or a similar class. Mentors receive benefits for the teaching they provide, so feel free to patronize only the mentors that provide the most helpful assistance to you.

If you are of Mentor status or above, you are eligible to actually become a
mentor by teaching students. Only mentors can use the teach command, which is used to teach level, skills, spells and lyrics to eligible students. Teaching is a method for the mentor to earn XP and earn Mentor points. You may only teach in newbie schools and Inns. You will be notified of students as they enroll at school or if a student is seeking assistance. You are allowed to enter the newbie school for the sole purpose of helping students. Typing "mentor" by itself will display recent enrollments and requests for a mentor in your kingdom. You may toggle this feature off, if you do not wish to be a mentor.

WARNING: If there's even a question that a mentor is abusing his mentor
abilities, they can and will be permanently removed.

That would be nice. Especially for classes that are less than popular at that time and for mentors that don't want to advertise what they do via title for people to contact them.

awesome idea for exactly the reason tetra explained as well as the fact that if a mentor in an underplayed class never seems to be logged on at the same time as the student is looking. This way they could keep an eye out for them.

You got it. That's exactly what I had in mind, Drew. And thanks, Tetra. Another reason this AWESOME IDEA should be implemented! ...please? :D

I'm not sold on it. If a person is online, they should get a message immediately. If nobody is available, then this is good. Mentor command is good for all players, but it really does help with players seeking real aid in learning about the game. I'd like a combination of both, a running tally for missed requests, but immediate sending of a message if there is indeed an appropriate mentor available at that time.

I'm not at all suggesting we remove the messages that come up when we're online.

I like this idea. I love mentoring (and so does my character).

Just seeing if I understand this right: You still get the "soandso is requesting a mentor" tells, but also you can type mentor to see who else has, but you weren't online for?

like that?

If I'm misunderstanding, please tell me, but if I understand it correctly, I really like this idea.

The idea is that when you log on you receive information telling you who has requested/enrolled in your absence, that might pertain to your mentoring.

I approve.

All the logging in the world still won't get someone online at the same time as you.

It may be more efficient to look at this from a different angle: allowing mentors and students to receive mentor-related feedback in their who lists. Arguably, though, that can already be achieved through a Title...

Interesting idea, though. A potential downside are Ghost Students, people who roll characters but either never play or never want to be mentored on them.
