This was a terrible idea. I can barely afford the things I need when in the newb school and have to grind out money in the newb school before I can purchase lifesaving basic equipment so that I can kill the NPCs easily. Why was it a good idea to put this money in the bank so that I can't access funds I need at an immediate start? As it stands I can't train skills or spells, buy equipment or anything I need to do at the start because I start out with a paltry 1 gold piece.

I need access to the 5 platinum that newbs start out with immediately to mitigate leveling problems at this level of the game.

I was told that in every school but Exile, all trains cost one copper.

Armor can run you anywhere from 5 gold to 3 plat

The only reasons I can see for the trust fund are A. to curb "test characters," and B. For the cheating bastards who roll five characters and drop their one plat on the ground so they start off with five plat. Problem A probably won't ever be fixed, and problem B is, well...I'm pretty sure it's not a big enough problem to warrant this change.

Either way, I agree with Ardith. It's pretty crappy having to grind on enemies just so I can afford newbie armor and train skills(and, in Taslamar's training area, I always have more experience than I do skills. Hell, by the time I could afford to learn all my merc skills, and get all the armor, I stockpiled enough experience to get to Novice 3.

Leveling actually seems to get easier after amateur. I don't know if others agree, but getting out of the newb school takes me longer than the three statuses following. I don't mind putting in the kind of effort it takes to get off to a good start, but part of the reason for the change is the fact you can easily sell goods now. Perhaps just go wander a few lower end leveling areas, sell the stuff, and there's your money.

It doesn't help that weaponry in the empire costs over 1 platinum. That's pretty ridiculous.

Some of the more bought ones are worth 2-3 platinum.

There are NPCs which give over 1 gold in THAT area. Even the most expensive price listed is only 30 NPCs. Ok, that takes a while, but the danger factor is almost nil. Die and what, you get back to your stuff in a few seconds? Let alone the availability of weapons and armor in nearby areas. Like one of the most successful bands ever said, "You can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes you get what you need."
