Suppression was a dumb idea. So was magical resistance training on a barbarian. Suppression was wholly unnecessary to begin with as healing spells should naturally not be affected by magical resistance. As per the helpfile:

Quote:
The downside to magic resistance is that it does not discriminate between
helpful and harmful magic. Magic resistance may cause you to resist buff
and curative magic. However, most resistance comes from equipment that has
been enchanted with the enchant armor spell, which can be removed when
necessary. Also, magic resistance works by absorbing magical energy and
converting it into healing energy that affects the wearer. This healing
effect becomes increasingly powerful as you acquire more resistance.

Magic resistance should just convert the healing energy into healing energy which means that healing shouldn't be resisted in the first place. This is the main reason why a magic resistance laden melee character is unplayable to begin with, because they cannot be healed. Suppression is just a gimmick (a failure at that too).

If I heal a character then the MR should recognise the magical energy spent and actually see it as having already done its job. The magical resistance simply ignores the healing spell because it is already transformed into its preferred state of magic.

Also, "buff" in the helpfile should be changed to "support."

We need to be careful about buffing MR barbs, or casters could really start to be awful.

I agree that MR barbs are not going to have as much potential in pvp or pve as regular barbs. The trade-off is that they're not eq dependent. It can also be done as an rp tool.

In summary, I'm not convinced anything should be changed. MR barbs are supposed to be worse than the rest.

Where is it said that they're supposed to be worse than the rest? I think you just assume too much.

If MR resists healing spells, MR should also resist Resurrection spells.

I approve of this.

It's probably not explicitly stated anywhere, and I might just be wrong about this. It seems to me though that there is a trade-off:

If you don't go MR: You need to spend a lot of time prepping via enchanting. However, your potential in pk is very great.

If you do go MR: You don't have to spend so much time prepping, and you'll be okay even with minimal effort. You'll never be a powerhouse, though.

If you buffed MR barbs too much, you'd end up with someone who didn't have to spend any time prepping, and could still be a powerhouse in pvp.

Let me know if I'm off-base here, but I think it seems pretty reasonable that MR barbs would be expected to have much lower potential than the rest.

If you built an MR barb perfectly, he'd be more EQ dependant than any other barb.

True story.
