why dont they have it...they use staves and wands, how can they figure out what they do......other than asking someone else to do it

Agreed.

It is quite LAME that paladins and hellions can identify and warlocks cannot.

Well ... part of the warlock's nature is to be a channeler rather than a master of arcane lore or a diviner. This seems a deliberate and flavorful omission. Also, do warlocks really need to be more self-sufficient?

I'd rate this very low on a list of desired warlock changes.

While I can't give any argument for warlocks being able to see magical properties on things, I do think they should be able to!
