Post subject: | Tame re-evaluation? |
Having now played one minotaur scout to champ 3 and a half-elf scout to GM, I have to bring up an issue that has been nagging at me. Why is it that as scouts advance closer to GM, the high charisma taming benefit fades and disappears? At around Veteran, when scouts are first able to tame an animal companion (though thanks to high-priced store-boughts, this is actually not useful), the difference between lower charisma and higher charisma tames is noticeable. Lower charisma scouts simply cannot befriend animals of a certain level whereas higher charisma scouts can. However, with more levels, this difference fades and disappears. The relative strength of the tames progressively weakening. Once past Master, it seems that what is tamable to be an animal companion becomes fixed based purely on level (I would check particular animals with each Champion review). And even then, the level of the tame seems to be capped at around low to mid mentor (assuming that NPCs consider the same as PCs do... in that at GM, Masters are 'Easy' and Mentors 'Not a challenge'). I was sorely disappointed that upon reaching Grandmaster status, I was still not able to tame what I presume to be high mentor level animals. Now I know that charisma affects other things like XP-gain and order lag, but I just feel a little mislead by the early notion that a higher charisma scout would be able to tame slightly stronger animals than lower charisma scouts. Would it be possible to re-evaluate the tame mechanism a bit? So that there is a charisma element to what a scout's final tame can be? Perhaps instead of lowering the floor on what lower charisma scouts can tame, maybe just raise the ceiling a smidgeon so that high charisma scouts can tame upwards to high mentor, just beneath master animals? Is this a reasonable suggestion? I'm not dissatisfied with my experiences playing scouts, merely thought that having played two in a row to high statuses, I was in a position of unique perspective. If this notion has been brought up in the past and voted down, I apologize, I am not very active in the SK forums. |

I'm almost certain that any scout with any cha can tame any tamable animal, but some you have to spam for like 5 minutes before it will finally go through. Also, I think you're wrong about the highest level tame being a mentor. |

Thank you for the feedback. Any and all feedback is welcome. To address the points you brought up, I approached an animal considered 'no match for you' to me in game that I know I have not been able to tame in the past. I then spent 30 minutes real-life time spamming tame. No luck. This is indicative of other experiences I've had with certain other animals that have a similar consider (level). So either I am a rather unlucky fellow, am missing something completely, or my point holds some water. |

Some animals are simply not tamable. This might be the issue you're running into. What is it, precisely? |

Yes. Some animals are not tamable. My original post was simply asking if the ceiling for tamable animals could be raised. Clarification: I'm talking about animals that respond to tame... those that 'starting to enjoy your company' or 'growl viciously'. Actually a more fundamental question is... is whether or not a particular animal is tamable based on its level setting? Or is it simply a flag setting? I was under the impression that it was level-based. But if someone in the know says that whether an animal is tamable or not differs from animal to animal, then I have a lot more testing to do to find the animals that consider stronger... to prove mundufien's point that tames can be higher than mentor status. I also don't know the rules for revealing IC information on the forums, so didn't want to get overly specific on which animals I'm trying. |
