Post subject:  The Northern Wastes: New newbie area

Hello everyone.
I have a brief announcement to make. I have just completed the new newbie area for the Northern Wastes. It is VERY different from what you are used to. I spent countless hours on this, trying my best to portray the evilness of the kingdom itself (and doing so just a little too well). I also reduced the size and made it less confusing. With the feedback I have gotten thus far, I did just that. Hope you enjoy the horrors that await you.

After just checking it out after being implemented into the game, I'd like to take a sec to thank you for the awesome job you did on this project and the amount of time it took to complete. It looks great.

Also, I'd like to send out a big thanks also for allowing the hand to chip in our 2 cents for the project, be it descriptions or ideas or whatever. I know I had a blast doing it and I am sure I speak for the entire hand when I say thanks!

People, check it out ASAP! It looks super ev0l!!! It's delicious.

I created a test char to see, and I accidentally said I was a newbie, and discovered the "test" to go on. What a great idea.

Overall, liking it so far.

I made a character or two to test it out. It's a pretty awesome place! An excellent evil starting location. All the others really pale in comparison to it. I do have a couple of thoughts though. I made a dwarf hellion and a giant barb (both with max strength). I easily got them leveled in an hour. But it was almost too easy. It was all one to three hit kills with the dwarf (with a battle axe) and one to two hit kills with the giant (with a greatsword). Granted, I was using tanks, so I'll have to try it with a necro or something. I'll let you know how that turns out. The other thing is the eq and money you end up with is almost unbalanced. I won't give it all away, but I ended up with 7 platinum and a full suit of steel armor. And there were some sweet *slave* items, which were awesome (I don't think I've ever had an item like that on any char). But it does seem a bit imbalanced compared to the other areas. Unless we're shifting all in that direction, in which case... WOOHOO!

So those are my initial thoughts on the awesome, new area.

1. A full FREE suit of steel armor is a mere walk away from anywhere. Obviously, you're doing it wrong.

2. Coin drop will reflect economy, but it isn't that hard to raise that sort of change elsewhere.

3. There have been slave items before.

4. If you make those characters in almost any newbie area, you're looking at 1-3 hit kills.

PS - Thanks Nashira. Look forward to checking it out.

razorblade is going to get the new area wimped when it's been up for a full day :(

I created a rogue... it was about average for me, but I'm an average player. I appreciated the armor and the coin. The lower area really reminded me of the movie "Hostel"

The problem (which isn't Nashira's fault) is that once you're kicked out of the area, the Wastes still suck, and the Moot is just about impossible to navigate. If I was a newbie, once I got out of the area, I'd be at a complete loss as to what to do next.

I rolled a scout alt. It was a fun area to play around in. Only found the one "quest" but none of the others, but then again, I wasnt looking too hard for them.

I don't have a problem with it, I'm just saying you're very well off when you leave their doors. It's the most generous (for lack of a better word) starting area I've ever been through. If I was a first-time player, I'd feel pretty good about myself.

The moot is one of the easier cities to navigate, actually. Moraksdal can be a bit confusing if you don't know it, though.
