Back in 2009, pets were changed not to be sentient, cast spells or perform advanced tasks etc. Was around April I think. Then it was elaborated on that pets fall into various categories. Fliers, bashers, mounts, and special attackers. At most they could be 2 of those classes simultaneously. If it could fly and mount, it couldn't bash. If it could bash / special attack it couldn't fly or mount. Etc. Mostly this was done to eliminate the fae-rin casting and bring usefulness back to sorcs. My question however is this. Why was the sentient flag removed from pets? A good example would be the Succubi that used to be in the Basillica from the northern wastes. They were barb NPCs that could bash and had a special attack. They fell in the criteria, had a script based on a few emotes that were, albeit somewhat annoying to players, but over all neat NPCs imo. Pets like that could be ordered to speak / emote as if they were a charmed NPC and in my opinion it was fun emoting with them and such as you could give sentient pets like that a real life of their own. I used to do this with the Death Knight on ixcenia when I played her as well until his ability to speak / emote was removed. Anyways, I think that as long as pets are wimped enough to where they're not uber there should be sentient pet options that way it could lead to some interesting RP options to be able to have companions and such that travel with you. (Like Ixcenia and her "sisters".) and such. What do you guys think? I'm not saying they should be spell casters. Far from it. But I do wish they could speak and emote again. |

Yeah I've had some pretty fun RP with the sentient pets. Not sure what the issue was with people RP'ing with speaking/emoting pets or if there ever was one. It'd be cool to have that aspect back. |

Is it really a rule that they aren't allowed to be sentient? If so.. why? And why are there so many sentient pets still around? I've spotted at least 6. |

I am pretty sure that there -are- (unless they were recently changed) pets that can emote and talk. They however do not belong to the elite of the pets since they are lower level. |

It should be remembered that a lot of those changes were made in order to ensure that store-bought pets could not immediately outclass the pets a scout tames. Even though that lion is still a beast. I personally wish scout pets were able to have inventory. Undead can, what's up with that? |

Because a lion with a yo-yo would be silly. |

Immediately you go to a yo-yo! So silly! Pets should have equipment, within reason. I mean, why shouldn't your horse be able to wear horseshoes? A saddle, with saddlebags for your mount, etc. |

Cats don't have hands. They can barely push watermelons out of lakes. |
