The imms tried to add an interesting, useful new weapon to the game. They really tried, and I appreciate that.

But, they failed. Nobody uses this, nor does it have a use.

I propose this skill be [REMOVED].

Same polls every few months. We like sling! Javelins too! If you don't want to use them just don't. It was a useful addition. Maybe the ammunition needs to be lighter, but that doesn't mean the sling is useless.

SK Character: RAWR!
Lighter, and MUCH more readily available. There should be stones more frequently in the wilderness, or there's no point of having the skill. The point is that you can defend yourself with just a stone. So if some jerk tiger comes at you while you're going to retrieve the corpse that's in the desert because a naj ate you while you were collecting hedgehog quills, you can peg him between the eyes and survive.

Someone had proposed in one of threads I pasted that smooth stones weigh as much as coins. That would be nice. Or at least a really light magic pouch sold in every city that the character can trigger-empty it and have an amount of smooth stones that weigh as much as now. The hardest part is carrying the ammunition every day, all the time.

A "just in case" weapon is impossible to carry when its ammunition can only be held for a small amount of time.

If sling stones simply did not crumble, that alone might give them more merit as weapons.

They crumble only if you use them. In other words you can dig for stones and keep them in your backpack.

edit: Also there are not many shops that sell slings and some slings that NPCs hold crumble. Deathrot probably.

Eh. It's opportunity cost.

Any character who needs ranged combat either can use any of the ranged weapons (slings and stones are terrible comparatively) or have spells.

There is no class, to my knowledge, that lacks a targeted damage spell AND bows/crossbows. There's simply no real target audience for the sling. Anyone who can carry the stuff needed to use a sling is better served carrying something else.

Spell-weapons, on the other hand, would be incredibly useful and interesting. I wish there was a way to get more people on board that wagon.

Johnix WRECKED one of my chars as his barbarian with a sling.

My last barb used it against Tragonis's necro and made him run like the dwarf he is >_<

Oh, right.

Barbarians don't have ranged combat outside of slings, do they?

I guess that's ONE class that benefits.

It is either sling or throwing weapons. Depends on the vulnerability of your enemy. Four attacks in any case.
