Infravision... does it really have to be so easy to resist? https://shatteredkingdoms.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=20849 |

It's a minor issue, and I'm sure we can all live with it as is... but really, it seems way to easy to resist it with even few resistance enchantments. I'm mostly just curious to see if anyone else agrees with me on this. I can only guess it is so easy to resist because of certain items that grant it. |

As in, because of magical resistance on your gear? My guess is that the scripted item or herb you're getting it from is low-level, and I'm pretty sure that low-level spells are more likely to be resisted than high-level spells given the same amount of resistance. |

Sprites and halflings should get infravision. Or some kind of 'low-light' vision that provides infravision alongside a miss chance penalty, so that you can still have a general idea of what the heck is going on. |

I don't understand why characters with infravision can't see as well at night as all characters can during the day. |

Actually, I find the 'low level' gear to hit more than the spell at a near mastered level. This being cast from my GM sprite sorc with max Int/wis. I suppose I should compare this with the detect spells, even my detect burried at a low superb almost always hits with no trouble, like all my detection spells, but infravision I can resist up to 6 times before it will hit! 2 seems the minimum resists for me. Don't think I've ever resisted a detect spell. Infravision is similar enough to a detect spell, so you'd figure that it would not be so easily resisted like the other detections... well... I figure as much at least. |

Actually, that's because of the way that resisting works. Self-only cast spells can't be resisted. Detect magic, detect invis, detect hidden, mirror image, resist elements, stone skin, polymorph, spells that are always self-only when cast, can't be resisted when they are cast. You can resist detections from a potion or scroll, but not if you cast it yourself. As well, any spell that CAN be cast on another person can be resisted even when you cast it on yourself. Invis, armor, sanctuary, bless, etc. That's likely leading to the discrepancy in what you're seeing. You're resist casted infravision just like you would any other spell that you can resist, it seems worse because you're not resisting detections, polymorph, and mirror image when you cast them. |

That... makes perfect sense. Still don't have to like it though. |

Nah, it still sucks. But at least now you know. There's always the "strip naked before casting" approach. |
