Dwarves get innate axe skills, so maybe let elves get innate bow skills? Generally, elves are depicted as handy with bows, so it isn't a stretch, although elven priests shooting arrows might be weird. Thoughts?

I don't want to sound rude, but where do you get the idea that elves are "generally considered handy with bows?" Because they have archer NPCs?

"Help elf-culture" leads you to conclude that one of the three races has a greater bond to Ayamao, but makes no nod to archery. Yes, there are NPCs in the forests that are scouts, but innate bow seems a bit of a stretch.

It's from DnD 3.5 really.

Yes? That's not the game we're playing here.

No... but it's very similar in concept.

Can't we just be friends?

We're friends, but it's still not 3.5.

Dulrik specifically makes things in SK different than other RPGs. Hence his insistence on deep-elves rather than drow, the odd alignment system that doesn't translate into L/N/C - G/N/E, and numerous others.

Instead of trying to make the game more like 3.5, let's make it more like SK. No innate bow. There's no reason for it.

Being like another fun game in some ways isn't bad. MUD's in general are derived from table-top RPGs anyway. And the SK alignments are very similar to the 3.5 alignments, with a little changing around.

As a gameplay element in SK, elves using bows aren't bad. I think it would be neat to see such a change since long-ranged weapons (especially bows) aren't really used by many people anyway, and it wouldn't change balance at all really since people who can use bows effectively already have the skill.

More importantly though, don't be rude to new posters for no reason, especially when they have good ideas. It's definitely a general depiction across just about every fantasy setting that elves use bows.

I don't think it's a good idea, in the context of SK. I don't think every single race needs to have an innate weapon abilities. Anyway, every race but human already starts with something. Both elves and deep elves have night vision. They both have detect magic. Deep elves have faerie fire and deep tongue. Gnomes have deep tongue. Half-elves get night vision. Sprites and griffons fly. Griffons get toughness, self defense and endurance. Sprites get faerie fire and faerie fog. Dwarves get axe. Centaurs start with innate kick and endurance. Halflings get sneak and hide. Giants get innate bash, boulder, and enhanced damage. Minotaurs get gore.

What else do they need, really?

Besides, bows aren't used much because they pretty much suck.

Then whats the big deal?

Also, Edoras is right. In almost every fantasy...books, movies, etc, elves are always portrayed as good archers. Just as dwarves are looked at as being good with axes, etc. It would make sense if this was implemented, but it wouldn't bother me either way.
