Dulrik, can you please look at the dispel magic spell and how it works?

I'm not sure what the mechanics behind that spell are, but I'm sure they suck.

It's ridiculous and a little overpowered that it commonly takes 5-10 tries (or quite frequently a lot more, upwards of 50-75% of a GM 23 wis/7 mana train Shaman's mana pool) to dispel a room spell. And generally the people who cast it are naked or at least not enchanted to the point where that should be the case. I'm pretty sure Dispel Magic does not check against a save, which is pretty absurd. I assume it checks against Wisdom or something.

Also, there is a certain Druid room spell that can NOT be dispelled at all, it stays in effect until the really long timer runs out, and that in and of itself is ridiculous.

Are you sure about the druid spell? I remember having it dispelled from when I played one about a year ago or so as well as the other spell that lets it work if we are talking about the same one.

The one that lets it work in rooms it normally wouldn't work in can't be dispelled.

This thread is a reference to the dispel spell itself and all the room spells in general. I just figured I'd point that out about that one too.

You can't dispel an effect that the magic stops working after it's used.

Dispelling room-affecting spells does seem to involve a check against the character's wisdom, and not against any amount of enchantments he may be wearing. I base this on the fact that when naked gnomes cast the druid spell, it's very difficult to dispel.

I'm not 100% sure on what is involved in deciding dispel's success against room-affecting spells, but my best guess would be that it's wisdom vs. wisdom. Art could be involved as well, but I'm almost positive that enchantments have nothing to do with it. I would be curious to know -if- dispel does indeed work differently with regard to these spells, and if this difference was intentional.
