Quote: [HP:100%] [ME: 84%] [PE:100%] > help disguise [Skills help] disguise Syntax: disguise <describing word> Disguise is a skill used by adventuring classes of all stripes to enable them to blend in among masses of people. Using this ability allows a character to hide their distinguishing feature and replace it with something else. When used by a master, the skill of disguise can allow a person to walk past their best friends without them even being recognized. Less than perfect proficiency with this skill means that there is a chance that someone will see past the disguise to the user's true appearance. The disguise will only last so long before it must be removed and reapplied. Note: Disguising yourself with the same keyword as another person or pet in your party is bad form and may be punished by an imm at their discretion. See also: stop visible Hey kids, got it updated. Don't disguise or polymorph like PCs in your party;) This is your warning, any other offenses will be cursable. |

This change is half dumb. I get the no disguising to look like a pet, but no disguising to look like someone else in your group or enemies group is super lame. |

Just try to play the game in-character, please. Ask yourself a simple question every once in awhile: "Would using the game mechanics this way cause people to behave in a way they never would act in-character?" If the answer is yes, then don't do it. Would someone cast a magic missile at their well-tanned friend by mistake just because their enemy on the other side of the battle line was also well-tanned? Of course not. It's ridiculous. It makes for stories in the game that are nonsense. So just don't do it. Play the game by making in-character decisions at all times. |

Here's my disagreement with your premise in form of a scenario. Two people are grouped together and one can take more of a beating than the other, so they disguise to look like the other person to draw the attacks. This seems perfectly reasonable ICly. Side note: Your scenario would also suggest that using a certain cabal skill in a similar way would also be against the rules if your statement was applied to that situation. |

If you can make the argument to the imm that will question you that you look exactly like your friend and you aren't trying to get the opponent to attack one of their allies, then you might avoid a punishment. As it is printed in the help file update, punishment will be at the discretion of the imm. To argue that successfully to me, you'd both have to be the same gender and same race (or very similar races [example: human/half-elf, elf/half-elf]) from the start. |

So what you are saying is that we should play our characters as though they were real, had some kind of personality, desire, and drive, some kind of code to live by, then all the ooc motivation and action should be punished? Huh, seems like you need to brew some coffee for your imms and take fewer excuses for people's actions. |

I'm glad the helpfile has been updated. Dulrik's take on the ability is exactly what it should be, imo. |

Yeah I agree. Have been saying this for a while also. And seems totally fine to disguise as someone in your own party for misdirection in certain circumstances. Whoever said that about the cabal spell is wrong. That spell creates an illusion that is IDENTICAL to the target. |

I said it pudgy. His logic is if you're standing beside someone you'd know, which seems to me would still be the case. I mean if you've been grouped with someone for a while and someone that looks just like them walks in.... |

Oh, you mean as a way to get people to target people in their own group? Yeah, that might fall into similar logic since they're not in formation with you. Generally I think D is just trying to get people to use the skills/spells in a way that would make sense IC rather than just take advantage of how targeting works or how people type. Definitely a move in the right direction. |
