So I was thinking. A swashbuckler gets four attacks with two fast weapons when neutural or aggressive, but barely gets three when defensive. A barbarian and mercenary will get four, five or six with haste, fury and specialize. The difference is a swashbuckler has second attack and dual wield, and a merc/barb has fourth attack. They should be working the same as 1 weapon strikes 4 times, and 2 weapons should strike 2 times. But somehow this does not work, and the swashbuckler falls even further behind the other warrior classes.

My suggestion is looking at these stances and upping the speed dual wield gives the swashbuckler, or give finesse a boost of speed to weapons like fury and specialize does for the other warriors. The current setup is just horrible, and is further demonstrated by the lack of swashbucklers in the game.

Goes back to an idea I had for enhanced stance a mentor/master level ability that granted greater bonuses granted by taking the normal stance.

This would give them another automatic ability though so I am unsure this would breath life into the class.

I am pretty sure the problem is with dual wield.

Are any classes that get second attack able to reach a third attack through haste?

I imagine so. My paladins and hellions were able to get four attacks with a weapon that had a high speed.

They should be able to punch out 5 to 6 attacks easy then. If not then there is a code issue somewhere.

Until D says otherwise, I wouldn't expect any changes to swashbucklers soon.

A swashie needs fast weapons to get those four attacks. Hell, my sprite swash would get seven attacks hasted using certain combos.

If I were to wager a guess, I'd say that it is because defensive stance drops the effective speed of a weapon. I'd guess that defensive stance would drop the speed of both weapons for a swashie, hitting them with a double loss in speed.
It would be fine if defensive stance gave swashies a bonus to riposte to make up for that, or something along those lines.

Stance modifiers for riposte. Sure, why not? In tonight's reboot.
