The portal stones can be gated to, and even have teleports and rifts redirected to them. If a person comes back to life with a new body but without a ressurection, the magic of the stones focuses a spirit into a new form at the stones. I wonder if its just a matter of time until the dead figure out a way to manifest at the stones as well.

That, I think, would be a nice change that would promote RP beyond the grave. Spirits of old could still be kept as alts to play the role of old mentors and such and would give an extra incentive to people to age-death their characters. Yeah, an RP incentive, with no PK value whatsoever, but for me that would be enough!

I like the additional bullets of your idea as well!

Am I the only one who gets irritated when ghosts hang around long after they're dead? I mean, I understand keeping a character for a little while for fun, but after a while I want to scream "ROLL A NEW CHAR ALREADY."

I might be the only one.

Unless all you want from SK is mindless PK, then I fail to see any problem with the dead hanging around. All they can do is RP.

I think I like Evena's approach too, if I understand it. If it means that you can basically choose a place to manifest to, and while there, Death can't suck you back to the River, but while outside of your haunting zone, you might very well exhaust yourself while manifested and get sucked back to the River, then I like it. If it means that you really bind yourself to one room, and any attempts to move from that spot will have Death scooping you back up, I can't imagine why anyone would want to do that.

I think the manifestation at the stones is still nice, in that the dead could get around a little. Plus you would have to do 'spirit bind' while in the room, I would imagine, so if you have no way to get there, spirit bind would be useless. I say both would be nice.

It would be that if you moved from that spot, you went back to the River. Why would people want that? They can't manifest at all if there isn't anyone who they know. This gives them a -place- that they know, removing the mortal element. It should be restrictive.

Yes this would give them more than nothing. But I can't see anyone being terribly interested in playing in a world where your entire world consists of the River plus one single solitary room. Also, if you have no way of manifesting into the mortal world, then you have no way of picking a room in which to bind. I don't know how else you'd target a room in all the thousands and thousands of rooms without being able to be in that room.

The only problem would be with existing people who have died and no longer remember anyone.

Usually, on and around the time of age-death, a character knows one or two people that would be willing to help.
