Can we have an optional thing built into the character creation that allows for a suffix to be used if a person wishes it with a list of already existing family lines to choose from based on kingdom choice?

It should display in score/attrib, sure, but also in title automatically.

I ask because it'd be cool if you could pick a surname as part of your character and organically create loosely affiliated character (notice character, not player) groups without resorting to ooc coordination and such.

Plus we could put some helpfiles in detailing their histories for the lines and help immerse folks in the game more so when planning characters.

I'd only advocate if this is something that would take Dulrik no more than an hour or two to accomplish (minus the helpfiles, we can do that part collectively). Dulrik, is this something that could happen in your opinion?

I always thought players could use the title to show lineage if desired.

That would still be an option. The concept would be that there are 'built in' lineages that players can pick for their characters upon creation. Kind of like picking a class or kingdom, but optional, and would add to the atmosphere/history/past of the mud.

So like Bloodlines officially recognized by the game mechanics?

I suppose it would be nice. Depends on how little work it would be for Big D

Yes, builders could even use it as a flag for scripting and such. I think it'd be awesome.

I can see it now, every centaur in the game becomes a Rev'ero, to the chagrin of those with memories. Then the Rev'eros start marrying each other and Big D decides to go with it and hits the centaur race with a big, huge dumb stick, making the giants more intelligent than the centaurs.

thinking about this, I don't like it. The title is good enough

I don't like it at all. Not only this can be served by the title, but also it would not encourage people to be creative and make their own, new legacy of a bloodline. Sticking to the past is not the greatest thing. Then again, if you choose to, you can always do that by the title options.

You have selected the Quae lineage!
You have been outfitted with a corset and a riding crop.

The TITLE command is good enough. Trying to embed player-created lineage and history into help files / creation questions / etc. could become quite a pain to maintain. There's also the question of who decides what surnames become a lineage? How accurately and in how much detail is the history recorded? Via a creation menu, you'd also run the risk of a descendent not knowing anything about their geneology... "Oh, my surname? I don't know much about it. I just chose it from a menu ..err, in the orphanage."
