Post subject:  [IDEA] Faction Anonymous toggle

What it is:
A new toggle in the list that when enabled, will do two things:
- Hide your Faction affiliation from the WHO List to those of the same faction
- Suppress any and all faction abilities and benefits

Hide your faction affiliation from WHO list:
Essentially, this makes you a truly "secret" member. As long as this feature is on, leaders can still see you listed in their faction using their own leader command, but nobody else in the same faction as you will see that you are one of them.

Suppress any and all faction abilities and benefits
While this toggle is on, you may not cast any faction spells or use any factional abilities. Additionally, NPCs that recognize you as one of their own will not do so. So, no entering in cabal HQ's, no ordering guards around, no law immunity and no room emotes of guards recognizing you.

When a person with faction anonymity uses their cabal/tribunal channel, the toggle is turned off, thus making them known.

What it will add to the game:
Truly secret members, truly secret rosters, real definition of "spies" that cannot be ruined by either OOC Spite, or by simply a bored player that was in Faction A, retires and rolls a new character, joins faction B and then all of faction A must rely on the player's good courtesy to not give out their roster.

I like this idea and since we are on that, can something be done with the 'who religion' command for the religion of Thuban?

I originally agreed with this post, but I think I've changed my mind.

Joining a faith is just that -- joining a religious organization.

There's nothing at all preventing you from being a dedicate to a certain God without showing up on the who religion list. Ehlynn did it, and so have several others.

Eta: I feel the same way about cabals. Don't join if you don't want to join. I'd like a toggle for special abilities, but membership shouldn't be hidden from other members, IMO.

Ehlynn was not a priest. Not that this is only about priests though.

If you're a priest, my sentiment goes double.

I like this idea rather a lot. It gives an extra IC protection from OOC cheaters. The way the Harlequin RP works is a perfect example of this. They very typically have a cabal half-full of members who aren't known as members to the rest of Pyrathia. This is ESSENTIAL to the proper RP of many characters, and is quite fun to RP until some jackanape gets inducted for week and spills the contents of the who list, causing several unknown toons to delete due to compromised character RP.

Someone will inevitably, eventually fudge the boundary between IC and OOC and say in character "Oh yeah, that person is a harlequin, didn't you know?" despite flawless RP and maintenance of anonymity.

The type of protection suggested Is, in my opinion, vital to the protection of all the 'secretive' organizations in SK.

Because it doesn't fit in your carry-on?
