But... It's more fun to sell so many items that he runs out of energy to respond anymore. Plus, think of all the language practice out of town people are getting.

Honestly, this looks like a script bug. He's probably only supposed to tell you that when you try to sell something he doesn't buy.

If that's the case, its a problem with every 'pawn shop' NPC in the game.

I count 6 NPCs that have the custom script to say "I only purchase the following items: <blah blah>". Likely one builder created a slightly flawed script and five other builders copied it. Only the "looks uninterested" line is part of the game code.

Even if this is flawed, it is still helpful.

Without things like this SK becomes really difficult to play without relying on outside information sources.

It's a good example of scripting trying to do the work of code. The proper thing to do would have been to ask for it as a feature and then it could be universal across all shopkeepers everywhere AND working correctly.

That's more likely to happen with a script.

Iirc this was put in place in some areas during a long period of no coding support a few years ago. You were busy with some kind of extended something and just did not have any time to do any code support for the game. This was put in as an aid to make shops a bit more user friendly, rather than just walking from one to the next and hoping you got lucky with the kinds of items it would buy.
