I still think the jail system needs to be revised. At some point just execute him for "Patterns of Heinous Crimes," and let it go.

Yeah, but Zhenshi doesn't believe in execution.

But they do believe in seppuku shouldnt they give their prisoners the option after say a week in game. A chance to purify themselves. Although cant jail time be spent offline now so you can just go play an alt well you serve your time. Some code to give you the opt out option if you stay logged in would be interesting.

Reading that post certainly made me want to opt out.

Serving jail time is the harshest penalty in SK. If you don't want to sit in jail there is a really great way to make sure you don't ever have to do that: don't commit crimes.

If that doesn't work, don't go to that kingdom.

If that doesn't work, make nice with the leadership of that kingdom.

Of course, if all else fails you can always whine about it on the forums. The community has seen plenty of things go the way of the dodo with that method.

Here is a real world example: I don't like getting butt raped (I imagine, anyway). I've heard that sort of thing is pretty commonplace in federal prisons. So, I try my hardest to not commit federal crime. Or, when committing federal crimes, I try my hardest to not get caught. By doing this, I avoid going to federal prison, and thus, avoid getting butt raped.

I think the game would be very boring if no one is willing to break some IC laws. You need villians. Even the good guys have to break the evil laws.

I'm with Tragonis.

But Trag - I think we're in the minority to the "if you can't do the time, don't do the crime" crew.

Perhaps. What about making jail cells bigger with mini quests with jailors, guards and fellow prisoners that reward you with a seppuku dagger or a file or spoon to let you try and break out of jail yourself with a minor success rate.

This is one of the reasons I quit playing, that and I've been playing other games. I pop on from time to time but that's about it. The law system is kinda screwed up. A game that is based on conflict needs villains as Tragonis said. The difference is that you shouldn't harshly punish someone for breaking the laws that badly.

It's not really that I'm against the whole jailtime thing, just the fact of how stupidly fast it can accumulate. Take Meph for example. After attacking Exile a couple of times, a warlock, with as much aoe as they have, can get as much jailtime as Trag has easily. Mine was nowhere near his time as it was only 13ish days if I recall. It's been a while. The thing is though is that with guards and bounty NPCs spawning, you can rack up crimes crazy fast.

I understand that you don't want NPC's and PC's to differ, but honestly there are times to where people on this game are icly hard to work with, and they have every right to be. I mean if you have a diabolical marfikian that shows no respect, what reason do you have to pardon them?

On the other hand, making someone sit and stare at a screen for 8-12 hours and can't move and, in some cases, can't get broken out for whatever reason isn't cool. You guys may think it's funny, but if you were on receiving ends of things like that, you'd also be complaining be it in the back of your mind or on the forums. No one would be like, "Oh, well my rescue attempt failed. I guess I'll just do the time since I killed all those guards."

Punishing a player of a game to where they can't play a game is a bad punishment. All the other kingdoms have death penalties save Zhenshi. I think after accruing so much time, then you should automatically be executed if caught and your belongings junked. The crimes wiped except banishment. Banishment should be death on sight, period.

Zhenshi however if you're wanting to keep it pure as it is, should offer the seppuku dagger like Cordance suggested.

Opey, your suggestion is somewhat flawed. Real life and SK don't mix, in any way. We're talking a world to where people hurl fireballs and such. The whole "Don't do the crime if you can't do the time" thing doesn't really fit in SK because then nothing would ever happen. The only RP you'd happen if people followed that is a lot of the "lightie" drama that typically goes on and people playing house because so few people would break laws. This game thrives on conflict.

Honestly, I'm under the impression that if a person is killed by a guard of that area then they should have their crime lists wiped as the sentence was imposed. A lot of PC's will kill invaders but not really pardon them (leave them banished if need be). I think doing that would help cut down on the excessive crime lists we see while making it somewhat fun for the darkies if they get caught. Not the "Haha, you got 60 days in jail!" Then again, people thoroughly enjoy making other players lives as miserable as possible, so I dunno.

Actually, my comments do have merit and there is no flaw in what I wrote. You have chosen the path of the whiner and that is unfortunate. I have played plenty of characters, light and dark side, who have committed crimes and still were fun to play. You can do a lot of things to avoid getting caught. You can also turn yourself in before things get too serious. You can (*gasp*) RP defeat and pay some sort of restitution. Get creative instead of sitting there and whining about how hard its going to be when you get caught.

Stop being such a whiner.
