I'd be interested to hear more about this, so I have taken the liberty of starting a thread as per your suggestion. I have one minor gripe and would like the IMMs to be more heavy-handed about enforcing it. I flat-out do not like grey leaders of dark or light factions or dark or light leaders of grey factions. I furthermore do not like too divergent alignments in any given faction. For instance, I do not want to see principled or diabolic characters in grey factions, lighties in darkie factions or darkies in lightie factions. Anarchists belong in no tribunals and not in any light or dark cabals either. Roughly 100% of the time people deviate from this simple program it causes problems.

I would propose even tighter restrictions for most cabals and factions, but I'm sure that would just lead to epic QQ so I won't. I just want to ask people to stop trying to be special with dumb alignment/faction combos and give the rest of us a break. Thanks.

As for all of the stuff you said in the other post please just hand out curses or warnings explain why OOC and move on. People will learn and their characters can take appropriate IC actions. I also think accusations of IMM favoritism are largely a lot of unfounded nonsense. If you have a good idea about something one or more IMMs will usually listen. If your ideas are garbage or if you just want a special favor you will not get any traction.

The big issue (with alignment, at least) seems to stem from more modern concepts of morality (reflected in the more realistic and endlessly debatable Palladium alignments, Principled, Aberrant, Diabolic, etc.) being mixed with a D&D-style world that has active, visible deities that theoretically go around enforcing morality.

The rules completely change when you have Gods that will manifest in front of a person and say 'This is wrong'. Especially with multiple witnesses. There's no room for moral grey areas. You have gods whose domains are slaughter, tyranny, disease. No one worships slaughter and does it 'for the greater good'. Similarly, someone who has spent their life devoting themselves to Courage, righteousness, and purification isn't going to just let Mr. Slaughter-worshiper just walk on by without some serious convincing or other extenuating circumstances (daemon invasion? good reason. party at the Hart and Rose? Not so much).

Even pantheists fall into basically the same categories. A dark-aura pantheist would probably only worship the five evil gods, with some lip-service to the greys. A light would do the opposite.

That's really only the case for those of light or dark aura, of course. The grey alignments cover your pretty much everyone else, and the grey Gods (Ain being the exception, since he's not really a grey god) don't particularly care much about alignment (it doesn't make much sense to me that Achernar is down with necros, but that seems like a rather IC issue). It seems to me that there should be more grey-auras rolled, if people want to 'bend the rules'.

As for greys in cabals/tribunals, there's definitely a place for Anarchists in at least the Harlequins and Druids. Balance doesn't have to be orderly. And Dogmatics in every tribunal, with the exception of the Black Hand (I could even see an argument for a dogmatic in the Fist, because of the rigid, ascetic, monk-y thing). I basically agree that greys shouldn't lead dark-aura factions. I avoided leadership with Dalkar for as long as possible because of that, and when I did get it I tried to have him lead as a person concerned primarily with keeping things orderly and in line with the Emperor's vision would, rather than any personal ambition.

As a closing note, I may seem to be singling out certain people or events, but that's not my intention. I'm using recent, relevant examples that are comparatively fresh in mind, and hold no grudge nor advocate for any OOC action taken against any characters. Most of the stuff going on right now should be handled IC, especially as it provides the jumping point for some potentially interesting RP and conflict.

I think too many characters are completely defined by the cabals or tribunals they're in.

I believe all of Rodwen's characters have been played out of alignment and the player is consistently shown IMM favoritism.

I believe people only QQ about people's alignments when it negatively affects their character.

I don't think the "dogmatic" alignment is getting played enough.

I think there are far too few special snowflake characters and I demand more. Where is my Aludran deep-elf or Thubanite elf?

I don't think Galactus or jreid know what they're talking about in Reinald's afterlife thread.
