I only know of two ways to earn stat points: leveling and through mentorship. With the decrease in playerbase, the mentorship process seems very very grueling. If there are other ways to earn attribute points, could someone please say so? Also.. how much does one need to mentor someone to earn the points? Finally, what is the stance on attribute points? Are they meant to be very hard to earn after you've GM'd? If that's the case.. I suppose there isn't much need for me to suggest any new ideas. I'll wait for a few responses before I throw an idea or two out there, just wanted to feel it out before I put my thoughts out there. |

The mentoring system is relatively new to this game. Before it was implemented, you could only raise attributes by leveling, and it was impossible to get more than the 24 points collected between amateur and GM. Bonus stat points are, indeed, supposed to be difficult to obtain, and the cloak surrounding how mentor points are rewarded is securely in place. Keep helping newbies with meaningful mentor interactions, and you will see extra stat points. |

Mentoring for a stat bonus doesnt take much but you only get the stat per month. Really it only takes a few level trains or one or two skills leveled up to start with, I believe it was indicated that long ago that the amount required increases each mentor point. My memory could be fuzzy on the subject but I also believe the extra mentor work you do gets saved month to month so every bit counts. The amount required is no where near a full skill train and level reviews to level up out of apprentice. Now that there are max trains in things like HP and Mana its not as significant as it could have been in the past. That said they are a Bonus stat point, personally I think the main reasons they where chosen as a reward to mentoring is A) they motivate a GM to help out newbies and B) they are the 1% at the end of an even fight so generally do not have a significant roll to play. The fact you can only get the bonus stats from mentoring makes mentoring someone seem like a good idea. If you add in other ways to get stat points that are easier guess what everyone is going to do ... |

Maxman. I see you created this handle less than 30 days ago. I don't know how long you've been playing shattered kingdoms, but your proposals may be better received (and more relevant to the needs of this game) with more experience. This is my friendly suggestion that you play more before trying to change what you may not fully understand. Granted experience with other MUDs give you a perspective, but this is not just another MUD, and the pbase here is very dedicated. No class should need mentor points to be a viable and a reasonably powerful character. But they are a nice reward for helping out youngsters. Despite your claims about the decrease in the playerbase, there is an abundance of opportunities to mentor lowbies. If you're really set on earning mentor points, you should go to them. Not wait for them to come to you. The system, as it is, is awesome. |

I don't mind you giving your point of view even though you're new, Maxman. Archaicsmurf probably just got his cheerios peed in today. Attribute points are certainly hard to come by after you GM, and yes, the only way is through mentorship: Prior to mentorship it was impossible. However, if you plan out our character well it's actually very uncommon to -need- those extra attribute points, especially given that you can enchant for stats which is a new change in and of itself. |

I just don't think gameplay is the proper place for a newbie to setup shop. My point being is that there is a wealth of suggestions that are being substantiated by "this is the way it should be" instead of with legitimate backing that can only come from further experience. |

He wasn't saying they should be easier. He was wondering if he was accurate in his judgement that they were meant to be hard to get. Might could have gone in newbie help, but no reason to get all unfriendly. |

Was trying to be friendly. 11 idea threads in under a month from one person new to the game is excessive. If the question is "Why" instead of "Why not", then it belongs in newbie help. |

If you don't want to see his posts, use the foe option. Otherwise, deal with it. |
