I was reading about the different blood-lines on the home site and thought it would be kind of neat if upon creation, you could actually select a specific blood-line for your sprite, which might give you a slight increase/decrease in certain areas, depending on your blood-line. I would say dusk dancer would more likely be the generic sprite, with no +/- affect. I don't know... seemed like an interesting thought. Perhaps someone else that also finds this interesting can maybe elaborate more on it, since it seems to be a little out of my league in terms of game knowledge.

Didn't I see something about this browsing old posts once? Solyenna was originally going to be a sprite, but the bloodlines thing confused me enough I just said "f it. human", but i did search the forums, and it seems to me something along these lines had been said, about choosing a bloodline at creation.

Although I am not sure I recall seeing anything about differing stats based on bloodline. Interesting idea. Along those lines too...what about half-delfs?

Yep, bloodlines are purely RP. But people should be able to have a good guess which bloodline or bloodlines you've chosen by looking at your description.

Rest of the thread seems to assert that bloodlines is purely RP

Should have figured someone else would have thought about it before. I assumed it was purely RP. That is why I suggested it in the gameplay subject. Just thought it would add a little spice to the game.

Heck, you could probably make a blood-line creation for every race. It would certainly be interesting to see something like that. Have your generic, then have a few variations that would give +/- to stats/skills. Nothing major, just a little spice to add to things.

Oh I agree. Not shooting it down, this time its one I rather like, but someone was bound to bring it up that it had been discussed, so now that THAT is out of the way...how about it?

For centaurs too for that matter, especially since the tribe descriptions underline certain strengths in certain tribes.

Like the Yazze having higher dex, lower con: "They are generally of a slighter, more delicate build than most other centaurs, but much faster on their feet and with lightning-quick reflexes."

Or the Desapva having higher int: "Many Desapva possess outrageously sharp intellects."

Hard to RP a Yazze with "quick reflexes" when failing at anything dex based with there 16 max dex.

Realistically, you are given the option to pick a blood-line on creation - it's your title and desc command. I don't mean that to be snarky, I mean that to be empowering. We're given an insane amount of freedom: I think if some of these choices are hard coded into the game, it would start numbing the players to just how much freedom of choice and RP they have.

Huh? The creation option would allow you to keep the standard as well as choose other options that might be more beneficial for one thing, but not for another. As far as the freedom of choice/RP thing.. I think freedom of choice, as far as what you are allowed to pick, certainly does have a limit, as it would even if an option like this were implemented. However, RP is always going to be wide open, in either circumstance. RP is only limited by your imagination for most things. I'm trying not to read your post in a negative way. I'm just not really what it added to the topic. (I don't even want to touch the player numbing scenario.)

I added my disapproval of this idea, primarily. Secondly, RP is limited only by imagination - and if a player is given a set of choices, 9 times out of 10 their imagination is stuck rotating around those choices. That's what I meant by player-numbing. Things of this sort are best left to RP and title/descs, not something to be added to a score screen.

Oh.. you mean player-numbing and limiting like, say, alignment?

What maxman is suggesting isn't a cessation of RP, but rather... well, we often pick races depending on mechanics...though not always (giant warlock? and the new class/path options?)... but how many elf bards, giant barbarians, gnome priests, have there been??

What maxman is suggesting is essentially equivalent to adding a few new races with different stats, presented as sub-races. And how would picking, say, a sunspark sprite and have to RP a sunspark sprite be any more debilitating than picking a deep-elf and having to RP a deep-elf. (No, really, I want to roll a deep-elf that THINKS she's a lightie centaur and join Alshain! Will that fly? No? Oh how limiting.)

Dulrik could even tweak the token system to include these sub-races as buyable? sprite is free, and can RP bloodlines, but to get a rollable whatever-line sprite to get the different stats maxes cost X loyalty tokens? Same with centaurs? Half-delfs? Lot of potential there. What about it D?
