Along with the addition of no longer allowing access to cities from above, I propose no longer allowing gate points inside cities also. We already have stones at each city+ for ease of travel and the ramifications of allowing enemies in your face at any time is not ideal imho. Why have gates and gate guards in cities that are simply bypassed in every attack? I say beef up gate security and end inside gate points to spice up battles. You are always going to have people that can sneak inside and be targets for people anyway which adds yet another use for allies/ friends. My two cents :p This also could add the benefit of stopping 6 vs 1 where a trib member could close and lock a gate, effectively protecting a city from attacks. I think it has a lot of potential.

You are not trying to lock them out! You are trying to lock them in

I don't think it is that big of deal.

So aside from recalling into a city like nerina, how would people get in if I decided to be a troll and lock all the gates?

Getting approval if you're a Kingdomer/Citizen, probably?

Thought there were NPC gate keepers outside of most populated cities. Or is that Ayamaoan only?

As far as I recall... of the capitals, Sith'a'niel is the only one with a gate guard such as you described. Damn elves!

The north used to be based in Krychire and that did, and still does, have a gate guard. Outside of that, no other capitals, but a handful of towns.

So, if this change were to be implemented, it seems fair to stick gate keepers at each of the capitals that don't presently have one, then.

As a relatively new player and through my experiences in pvp, I do not think this is truly needed. You should know where your gate zone is and be able to put yourself in position to defend it. Your idea isn't bad, I just don't see a need for it other than the semi-cool idea of it.

I would like a simple signal (bell that rings) every time a gate near an Inn has been opened. Doesnt let you know who is using it, just lets you know its there. There are a number of issues with pvp as it stands. However I think a significant one is the fact that most PvP ends up as a surprise gank. This is because if you warn someone so they can get prepped at least 50% of people will disappear either to cable safe areas or just log out. However if the "gate bell" was introduced, it would be enough time to quaff a potion or two but generally not enough time to make a full escape with no risk. I could be wrong but I believe there is a gate target with in 3 rooms of every inn meaning at worse a chase is happening. Not to mention random people will start triggering your OMG I have to run reflex making it become less a reflex over time.

I don't think we should remove gate targets inside cities altogether, but I do think cities should be designed to have at least one room of guards (not necessarily powerful guards, at that) between the nearest gate target and the inn to slow down attackers and alert anyone inside the inn that they are in danger.
